Personnel from Grand Valley Fire, Garfield County Sheriff, and Parachute Police Department lined the Exit 72 Overpass Friday morning to honor Firefighter Nate Matthews as he and his family made their way from Denver to Grand Junction. Matthews’ service was held Saturday morning downtown Grand Junction.

Nate was one of 5 Rifle Helitack Firefighters who were burned over on the Knowles Fire near the Utah state line in June. #rememberfallenbrothers

Some workouts make us stronger.

Some workouts make us remember.

This Thursday, we will honor the lives of Emily Baker, Nick Hutherson, and Sydney Watson, three wildland firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting others.

This tribute workout was thoughtfully programmed by Coach Sierra, with every movement carrying meaning:
🔥 Rope Climbs — overcoming obstacles under pressure
🔥 Rowing — sustained endurance
🔥 Box Get Overs — navigating rugged terrain
🔥 Plate Carries — transporting critical equipment when it matters most

Three rounds. One round for each hero.

We’ll never fully understand the weight they carried, but for a few minutes, we can move with purpose, embrace discomfort, and honor their courage.

Join us as we remember their sacrifice and the entire wildland firefighting community.

❤️ Show up.
❤️ Work hard.
❤️ Give it everything you’ve got.

Emergency shelters are activated when our community needs a safe place to go, whether it’s a power outage, severe weather, or any event that forces people from their homes.

Today we trained with Mulmur Township and Dufferin County to learn how these shelters operate and how we, as Rural Rescue, can step in to support.

We volunteer because community care is at the heart of who we are, making sure families, seniors, kids, and neighbours have warmth, safety, first aid, and a familiar friendly face in times of stress. 💛

Prepared communities are resilient communities and we’re proud to be part of that.

Our team volunteers for the Dufferin County emergency shelters. A team of volunteers who are prepared for any type of large scale emergency to support our community members.

Last year we were able to support the Mulmur Melanthon emergency shelter through our March ice storm which put many residences out of power for over two weeks.

Today’s training reviewed setting up a shelter and how we can support our community as well as problems solving techniques.

Of course we had some fun too with the @grandvalleyfire training on fire extinguishers 🧯

On Sunday morning the Coulter Creek Fire broke out in the Panorama subdivision of the Missouri Heights area north of Carbondale. The fire grew to 115 acres between late Sunday morning and early Sunday evening with no homes being lost. On Monday crews are working on cold trailing the fire to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. Carbondale Fire is conducting an investigation into cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious. 📸 @jasoncharme / Aspen Daily News

At approximately 14:30 on Thursday, July 17, the Grand Valley Fire District was notified of a brush fire south of I-70 MM 79, reported to be on a hillside, active flames approximately 12 feet high, with an estimated 1/4 acre burning in heavy fuels. At 14:34 CRFR and DeBeque were mutual aided for wildland engines, Interagency was dispatching their engines and aircraft were being ordered up. Utility 37 arrived in the area to find a fast moving fire in heavy fuels and established Cottonwood (flat) IC. Due to the complexity of the incident, number of homes threatened, and the need for additional manpower/engines, command requested a MAMA response, dispatching mountain area mutual aided departments.
