POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@gratefuldangle was born from my love of Grateful Dead music. I first fell in love with the Grateful Dead because I found the album “Reckoning” on sale in the local Hastings in Santa Fe. I didn’t know much about the band so assumed they played a lot of acoustic music. When I went to college, my world exploded and my new friends shared shows with me and it quickly became clear that this is something I would love my entire life.

Learning more about the music came with learning more about the band, and by default, the fans. My parents were not Deadheads, but my dad is a huge fan of music and introduced me to tons of amazing, unique artists growing up. He could never love the Dead, but I’ve always tried! But recently I was playing some Dead & Company for him, trying to coax him into the electric energy of a Dear Mr Fantasy (he loves Traffic) or a Morning Dew…he told me he was just happy I could love something this much and that “loving music like that is like learning a language. You’re so thrilled to know when someone else speaks it.” As Jerry said, the Grateful Dead are like licorice. If you like licorice, you really like licorice.

When I found out Bobby died, like many people, I wept. It still makes me sad to know he’s gone. How could I feel so raw about someone I had never personally met? Bobby was up there reminding us that that only thing we are supposed to do in life is chase our passions. To work at it. To show up.

That’s what I love about the Grateful Dead. Or, one of the many things I love. As deadheads we are creators, we create experiences and community and we love to follow the music. To keep it in our bones. As Donna said “it’s yours, baby”

I first got into making earrings because I’ve always loved wearing them but had no idea how to do it. But I’ve found that I especially love creating them as a way to connect the music to experience and love…everything the Dead have given me 🌹💀⚡️ give @gratefuldangle a follow…hit me up for some dangles or a sweet tshirt…see you on shakedown 🥲 (lol or the local market in fernie on sundays at terry nelsons booth iykyk)

“Far from Me” SOLD!

🌿✨ Tie-dye magic with forest + river vibes.

🎹 Brent Mydland, the longest-serving keyboardist of the Grateful Dead, was known for pouring his heart into every note. His raspy, soulful voice and new songs helped keep the band evolving through the 80s. His most famous song was probably “Blow Away” and some folks aren’t as familiar with “Far from You” but, as Jerry said, Brent could sing “like his life depended on it.”

“I don’t know what I’m gonna do, I was all alone when I needed you.”

“Big Dark Star River” SOLD

You’ve never seen a pair of earrings like this and you’ve never heard Dark Star like Dead & Company played it in June 2023!

I heard this version for the first time this morning and it pretty much blew me away. Coming in hot from a spicy Big River (yes even by Dead & Cos standard slower tunes!).

Also, there’s really only one dark star, we’re always just coming in and out of it. Like the one constant in life…

SOLD!

***SOLD***!! “Estimated Prophet” tie dye for sale • Shine on the river with this shirt!

“Like an angel standing in a shaft of light
Rising up to paradise, I know I’m gonna shine”

Took me a minute to understand this song but when it hits, it hits. We loved the shaft of light over the bolt on the front and it reminded us instantly of the lyrics in Estimated Prophet.

The Grateful Dead were nothing if not funny and quick witted in their interviews and life philosophy. The tongue-in-cheek swipe at certain fanatical followers in this song is both brilliant and hilarious. Combined with the Phil 💣’s and funky guitar…🎵

“Don’t worry ‘bout me
No, no, don’t worry about me, no… 🎵

$60, size large Gildan ultra cotton shirt. Hand dyed by @tonystiedyes in BC and locally printed at @givershirtworks • DM to purchase!

Saint of Circumstance tie-dye ***SOLD***!

“Well it’s been heaven, but even the rainbows will end
Now my sails are fillin’ and the wind is willin’
And I’m as good as gone again
I’m still walkin’, so I’m sure that I can dance
Just a Saint of Circumstance, just a tiger in a trance”

Things have a way of working out. It’s September and the summer —and Bobby’s short shorts—might be over…but as we move into the next chapter…one thing’s for sure, no time to lose.

Hand dyed in BC by @tonystiedyes and locally printed by @givershirtworks ✨ this is an XXL shirt but it fits more like an XL. Gildan ultra cotton ✨

DM to purchase — $60

“Mission in the Rain” SOLD!

This is a moody and somewhat melancholic song by Jerry and it’s been poignant for me this summer. After watching Trey Anastasio perform a heartfelt tribute of this song to Jerry at the Grateful Dead 60th, it’s taken on new meaning and a new feeling for me when I hear it. Work-wise, I’ve never been through a harder time with my nonprofit — and while you aren’t here to hear about that, I think there’s something so comforting about the tapestry of music that Jerry wove to know that there’s a moment when we all feel the same way:

“Some folks would be happy just to have one dream come true
But everything you gather is just more that you can lose.“

I made these earrings thinking of that feeling; appreciating that we don’t turn ourselves into who we are without dreams that we secretly fear we can lose, but that we go after them anyways.

PS the accent beads are a gorgeous iridescent taupe color. Tried to get a shot of them up close for you!

“Cats under the stars” *SOLD*

I couldn’t get the iconic album cover out of my head while making these. These earrings have truly “grateful dangle” and are STUNNING in person! The copper colored miyuki seed beads are light weight and shimmery. Earrings measure almost 4” but I’m a Taurus so I’m both confident that’s the length and probably unwilling to measure it again. Lmk if you want more details!

One of the best lyrics from this song, and maybe EVER: “Time’s a stripper, doing it just for you”

China Cat Tie Dye ***SOLD***!

Hand dyed by @tonystiedyes in BC and printed locally by @givershirtworks, this XL Gildan comfort tshirt is gorgeous! $65 Dm to purchase

🌻 Tie-dye, sunshine, and saving Nancy’s Yogurt 🌻

The Grateful Dead’s legendary 1972 Veneta, Oregon show—immortalized in the movie “Sunshine Daydream” had it all: blazing heat )”Sunstroke Serenaders”), a benefit to save a local dairy (Nancy’s Yogurt), and the first appearance of the infamous “naked pole guy.” And of course…The China Cat Sunflower → I Know You Rider jam that is still juicy decades later. 🌞🐱🌻 (thank you Betty Cantor, sound engineer legend!)

We named this new Grateful Dangle tie-dye China Cat Sunflower in honor of that epic moment. A little piece of history you can wear 🌞

“Fire on the Mountain”

Long distance runner, what you holdin’ out for?
Caught in slow motion in a dash for the door
The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor
You gave all you had, why you wanna give more?
The more that you give, the more it will take
To the thin line beyond, which you really can’t fake

I think that says it all.

But legit…if you haven’t listened to Cornell 77 scarlet fire…what are you even doing with your life? 😂

$60 — Dm to purchase, shipping not included
Earrings measure 3 3/4” (the contrast darker beads are a rose color, harder to see on the photo)

“Truckin’” SOLD

Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it’s been

I chose Truckin’ for this pair because I love the reds, vitamin C reference but it’s also one of the Grateful Dead’s most autobiographical songs. And let’s be real, the Grateful Dead is undoubtedly one of America’s 🇺🇸 finest exports!

$50 - shipping is not included.

“Standing on the Moon”

These earrings remind me of the planets. We are all celestial dust after all ✨ 🌖 💖

Standing on the moon
Where talk is cheap and vision’s true
Standing on the moon
But I would rather be with you
Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July
Just looking up in Heaven
At this crescent in the sky
In the sky

$50

Not all earrings are bolts, because the music of the Grateful Dead spans beyond one simple definition 🪩

PS I specifically chose this version of Dead & Company playing this song because the way they roll into this from Space at this show is 🥹 🫠
