excited to have work from my “The spirits that lend strength are invisible” series hanging alongside paintings by @mikecloudartist , @originalheatherhutchison and Daniel Dezeuze, amongst others, at @mizuma_kips this month. huge thanks to the very generous, @gwenaelkerlidou , for making this happen and including my work in this radical cross-generational conversation 🙏🏾
________

Mizuma & Kips Gallery is pleased to present FRAMING THE STRETCHER from Oct. 12 to Oct. 30, an 11person group show curated by painter/art writer Gwenaël Kerlidou. The artists included in the show are Christian Bonnefoi, Mike Cloud, Mark Dagley, Daniel Dezeuze, Max Estenger, Laurence Grave, Heather Hutchison, Pierre Louaver, Fabian Marcaccio, Chris Watts and Alexi Worth.

Framing the Stretcher is an exhibition that explores how the painting stretcher has evolved as a formal presence, equal with the painted surface itself. It features the work of eleven European and American artists who have employed a wide variety of new materials, painterly approaches, and conceptual strategies, and in the process radically transformed the art of painting.
The exhibition traces the stretcher as an independent element, from the first questioning of its symbolic function in mid-sixties Europe, to its role as a post-Deconstructionist trope in contemporary painting in America and Europe.

My 3-part construction from 1991 which has never been shown in the United States is out on the street and off to Mizuma & Kips gallery for the exhibition "Framing the Stretcher" curated by Gwenael Kerlidou.
