Creating publicly accessible edible gardens throughout the Oakland landscape. Beautification and education, security and resilience in our community.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

New pantry is up ✨ Built from reclaimed odds and ends with some help from my dad (last photo) — free, loved, and full of miscellany whimsical craft.

The OG one was a Jack London street score that ran a solid 6 years before calling it. This one took about 18 hours across three days to piece together.
It was originally headed to a new garden plot, but that project's on pause — and this pantry collapsed.. so it found a home here instead.

There's something about handmade things that carry the maker with them. When that lands in a community space, it hits different, fuller.

If you've read this far, remember to say hi to a neighbor that you may not have said hello to before. We all go through times where having even the support of a kind gesture leans our day towards the better.

today, 10 amazing students from Head-Royce volunteered with UCP at the Oakland Urban Farming Project Gravity Garden and helped build out a new compost area at a community urban farm that sits on land that was once an illegal dumping hotspot, which honestly represents exactly where we see this movement heading because while policy change, enforcement, cameras, and accountability all matter and are part of the long term fight, beautification and community activation are some of the fastest and most powerful forms of deterrence we have when abandoned lots become gardens, gathering spaces, and places people actually care about, it becomes much harder for dumpers to treat neighborhoods like landfills and much easier for communities to take pride and ownership in their environment. this collaboration feels like the beginning of something really special because transforming cities is not just about removing trash, it’s about creating spaces that people actually want to protect! #transformation #urbancompassionproject #oakland #urbangarden #urbanfarming

This weekend was all about Mother 🌎 and Oakland! It was great to drop, join and thank the volunteers at almost all of the 10 events happening in District 2.

From...

Friends of Lakeview Library beautifying the library to

Dang Nguyen and friends
de-weeding the Cleveland Cascade to

Keep Oakland Beautiful and DC16 painting over graffiti with murals, and tree planting with California Climate Corps at the formerly troubled 12th St encampment site to

Hope Ave tree planting at 23rd Ave to

National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club and Oakland Military Institute students doing trash pickup in San Antonio Park to

Friends of Lincoln Rec Center tree planting and beautifying the center with stones hand-decorated by Chinatown seniors to

OCIC and OCA East Bay trash pickup and de-weeding in Wilma Chan Park to

Oakland Parks Department’s Manny rehabbing new planter boxes at FM Smith to

Last but not least, Oakland Urban Farming Project’s Gravity Garden Block Party (got an idea for a neighborhood cleanup but need a fiscal sponsor? These guys do that!)

Be on the lookout for all the improvements by these groups and their volunteers in your neighborhood! 💚🍃

We did it! Grateful to all the volunteers who spent the afternoon tending to the #ParkwayCascade Steps on Saturday, September 7.

Thanks to @colonialdonuts for the delicious bites and coffee, and @oakland Adopt-a-Spot program, supporting and providing volunteers with tools for the upkeep of parks.

We hope neighborhood projects and gatherings continue to inspire the effort to #keepoaklandbeautiful. Stay tuned for our next outdoor activation with @gravitygarden and @thepaxcrew

Together we can achieve something greater. 🌻

The Parkway Cascade is a local gem, a walkway that connects Park Blvd and 5th Ave at East 20th St.

Join us for a cleaning and tending to the green space gathering on Saturday, September 7th from 11am-1pm. We’ll have coffee and bites from @colonialdonuts.

Together, let’s beautify outdoor space in district 2. 🌻

Sign painting process from our recent volunteer day at OUFP Gravity Garden! Similar to our street mural, we prepped the template in advance for folks to show up, pick up a brush, and help us fill the artwork in. It’s a little wonky, but made with so much love! ❤️ always a pleasure to bring people together to make art and be messy in the sunshine.
