When we talk about “range of motion,” we have to ask:

Range of motion where?

Lowering the legs farther creates more hip excursion. But once you can no longer maintain pelvic position, additional movement may come with anterior pelvic rotation and lumbar extension.

That isn’t necessarily more abdominal range.

So instead of continuing to chase motion through the lower body, @thegravitymat gives us another option:

Constrain the pelvis. Then load from above.

Bring the arms overhead.
Lengthen the lever.
Add resistance.

Now the upper extremities create a progressively larger demand on the trunk while the athlete works to maintain the relationship between the rib cage and pelvis.

That’s an important distinction:

More movement doesn’t always mean more muscular demand.

Sometimes we intentionally limit motion at one end so we can progressively overload the position from the other.

Constrain the range. Own the position. Then load it.

⚠️ Watch the Gap. Many people do core or ab exercises unknowingly in a compromised position.

If core control is not yet trained well, loaded movement with arms and legs away from your center can rely heavily on the spine and smaller surrounding muscles to maintain the position.

This isn’t about whether the exercise is “good” or “bad.” It’s about maintaining your trunk position while the limbs move away from your center.

When that position starts to break down, your body begins to compensate and find the path of less resistance.

Now watch the same movement on the Gravity Mat.

By supporting a better position, the Gravity Mat helps you maintain trunk position throughout the exercise. That means more time training the muscles you’re trying to strengthen.

Own the position. Then own the movement.

Better posture starts with better positioning. Change the position, change how your body feels.

The Gravity Mat®️design guides the users’ body into a position that informs proper posture and alignment. This position is what enables deep core activation and pelvic support.
