#ThrowbackHoboken In loving memory of a Redwing legend and Hoboken’s gentle giant, Joseph L. “Jody” Davis. As his nephew, Alvin Rivera Jr., shared, “Those who knew him know that his personality was so infectious, and he had a heart of gold.” Jody was the neighborhood’s honorary uncle — a steady, positive presence for so many of the town’s youth, especially his Redwing students. He lived by the mantra “once a Redwing, always a Redwing,” graduating from HHS in 1981 and returning home in the early 2000s to mentor the next generation. This is such a heartbreaking loss, but we carry his jovial laughter, warm smile, and uplifting spirit with us always. The Davis Family has set up a GoFundMe to help honor Jody’s memory. If you would like to make a donation, the link is in my bio. Swipe to the end for the Balloon Release & Tribute information. Sleep well, Jody. Thank you for everything. #WeJumpTogether #BlackInHoboken #HobokenOG #HobokenBornAndRaised #RedwingLegend #OnceARedwingAlwaysARedwing #HobokenBlackHistory #HobokenFamilies #HobokenCommunity

📢 #Attention ‼️#JubileeCenterMural 🎨 Calling all OG Jubilee Center Kids, African American families of Hoboken, residents who founded, operated, attended, or fundraised for the Jubilee Center. The City of Hoboken invites you to attend a community meeting tomorrow, October 22nd, 7pm in the Senior Room of the Multi-Service Center.  Hosted by the Hoboken Public Arts Advisory Committee.  The city seeks to gather personal stories and memories from the early days of organization which will be used by the Hoboken Public Art Advisory Committee to inform a commissioned public art piece in its honor. The public art installation will be commissioned and paid for by Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla establishing the Public Arts Trust. Bring your stories, memories (newspaper articles, art, photographs, etc.) and your families.  I will be there and I look forward to connecting with my family, neighbors and friends to connect & share memories of the great times we shared together during those early days.  Spread the word! This historic celebration is one that wasn't taught in schools, nor acknowledged, especially up in the North, until recent years. I wanted to curate a special event where we could come together as a culture & community to acknowledge & honor the past and celebrate the freedoms we currently have while moving towards the freedoms to come💪🏾. I'm really looking forward to seeing you all soon! With love, Kera 🫶🏾 Follow @wejumptogether @milesquaremommies
