OUT NOW - It has been said by those who sailed with her that Titanic had a personality. Our next witness knows this all too well and has spent years bringing her back to life with only pencil and paper. Bakery in London

A graphite pencil drawing of an imaginary bakery in London - this is a mash up of different cafes - coffee shops and bakeries I have seen on my walks in London… it would actually be rather fun to draw the things inside the bakery as well one day.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer and staying cool x

Let me know if you like the bakery it’s on Strathmore vellum 500 with faber castell 9000 pencils.

The Wobbly House

This is a Wobbly Little House who is just learning to survive in the big world of huge architecture and it’s a little nervous and a little shy as it wobbles from town to town searching for a place it can settle and call it its home.

The Colour Experiment
Series of three drawings all on mixed media board using graphite pencils and India ink.
This is the final piece in the series of little house wanting to be a castle - there is a story behind this which I shall write down next week but for now here are all three of the drawings that were my adventures into graphite with India ink. Let me know what you think and which one you like best out of the three - should I use colour with my graphite or leave or stay purely graphite

The Enchanted Castle

Are you sitting comfortably then I shall begin - this is part one of The Enchanted Castle.

Once upon a time long long ago there was King and a Queen who were kind and generous and fair to all the people of their land. They held massive feasts and invited all and no one ever slept hungry in their land. The King and Queen believed their good fortune was to be shared with everyone.

As the years went by the King and Queen grew older and hoped their son would carry on this tradition of kindness and generosity but their son was mean spirited and believe the only way to keep hold of the good fortune and wealth was by securing it away and never letting anyone into the castle .

The King and Queen tried to explain that the magic of the castle was only visible if it was open to all to enjoy and would disappear if they didn’t share their good fortune .

The young prince was arrogant and did not believe this after his parents passed away he closed the gates of the Castle and stopped the massive invites and surely but surely a forest grew around the castle and it became hidden from the world and for the first time ever the castle began running out of things / small things and then bigger things until it was too late and there was no way out as the enchanted forest covered the castle .

Part 2 of the story will be sent next week with the next drawing …. Let me know if you want to read more …

A Titanic Family of Friends.
As we have discussed many times on our “Titanic Talk” podcast, the ever-expanding family of likeminded friends we meet through our shared enthusiasm for the Ship of Dreams is one of the ultimate perks of being a “Titaniac!” Since Alexandra Boyd (we met in 1989!) and I debuted the show in April 2023, we have made 61 episodes and just as many new buddies. Look for Season 4 later this year, wherever you get your podcasts.

These relationships aren’t limited to Titanic conventions, screenings and memorabilia auctions. They are also reflected at book signings, musical performances, holiday excursions or drinks & dinner when we find ourselves in the same city.

That was the case this weekend when fellow podcaster, writer and Titanic enthusiast Paul Carganilla came to town with his genetically blessed family for the exciting premiere of talented daughter Everly’s new feature film, “The Accompanist.” I’m proud to have become an honorary Uncle to his & Jamie’s delightful kids and sharing lots of laughs, towers of cookies and (following in my father’s footsteps) $2 bills! I’m already cooking up future adventures for us to explore on their next visit to NYC.

Paul kindly wrote the Foreword to my novel “Kindred Spirits: A Titanic Tale” (and the cover design was by another Titanic mate, Greg DiNapoli....several real-life colleagues also feature prominently in the story, too!) so we share a special creative bond that will forever live on the printed page (as well as Audiobook and Kindle, haha).

Who knows how further these Titanic Tentacles will reach with the novel’s current development as a motion picture!?

Here are a few shots from our latest reunion as well as a few other of our happy encounters and a throwback pic with Alexandra from the way-back days!
