The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Greg as a 2026 Top 40 Under 40 honouree.

Please join us in celebrating Greg's accomplishments and leadership as we share his story.

For the past decade, Greg Gibos has been a driving force behind the men’s volleyball in southern Alberta and at Lethbridge Polytechnic, building not just a competitive team but a lasting culture on passion and excellence. He is an award-winning educator who continues to help the next generation of learners feel inspiration to become leaders in their community. Greg has been recognized both provincially and nationally for work as a leader and coach in our community.

Over his 10 years as a coach, his leadership has translated into meaningful success on the court, including either volleyball programs first ACAC playoff win – a turning point and set a new standard for what his team could accomplish. Since this time the Kodiaks have won ACAC medals in 4 of the next 6 seasons including trips to the final in 3 of the next 5 seasons. Along with this was the team’s first trip to nationals in Fredericton where finished 4th in the country.

In addition to coaching, Greg has been a dedicated educator in Southern Alberta. After 6 years at LCI, Greg has given 5 years to teaching at Lethbridge Polytechnic, where his impact in the classroom has been just as profound. Recognized as the instructor of the year for the past 2 consecutive years. He brings the same passion, commitment and care to his students as he does his athletes.

He is known for his infectious energy, he elevates every environment he is part of, and attempts to motivate those around him to strive for more and believe in their potential. Greg can now also be found around various little league diamonds, youth coaching clinics and hockey rinks as his new passion is providing volunteer coaching opportunities for his children Allison (6) and Reese (3). It’s just the start of Greg’s impact across so many elements of youth sport, and we cannot wait to see what he accomplishes in his future as a leader in the Southern Alberta Sport network.

And that's the difference.

When a child looks up at a tree, they aren't calculating worst-case scenarios. They're wondering if they can make it to that next branch. They're testing their strength, judging distances, solving problems, and building confidence one careful step at a time.

Tree climbing isn't just play.

It's risk assessment.
It's resilience.
It's perseverance.
It's learning to trust their body and their instincts.

Of course there are risks. There always are. But when we remove every challenge from childhood, we also remove opportunities for growth.

Children don't become capable by being told they're capable. They become capable by doing hard things.

So while we might see a fall waiting to happen, they see something else entirely: an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to discover what they're truly capable of.

And that's a lesson worth climbing for. 🌳✨️

So proud of our little swimmer at her first ever swim meet. She was in the pool with lots of girls two years older than her, and showed no fear or hesitation and even jumped off the blocks after practicing it twice. She finished the meet 2nd amongst all 6 year olds in southern Alberta and we look forward to cheering her on all summer

Big day over here. Reese officially ditched the training wheels and took on two wheels like a champ! Not stopping there… he biked 2 km all the way to 7-11 .
We celebrated the only way that made sense — with well-earned Slurpees. So proud of this kid. Also listen to the happiest most supportive big sister.
