The end of an era. 💫 From the bottom of my heart, thank you to current and former athletes and ALL in and out of the run community who have supported my journey in coaching. It’s changed my life, helped me learn about humans on a deeper level, and matured me as a person. I’ve learned A LOT about run training too, from coaching everyone from milers to ultra endurance athletes and taking a significant amount of advanced coaching education courses and staying in close contact with other coaches I deeply respect and can learn from. I’ve made the very difficult decision to step away from coaching as I start a Master’s in Counseling Psychology this January! 🎉😬🙏🏽 Thank you for being a part of my life by choosing me to be a part of yours. Running is such a beautiful sport. Always, always cheering for each of you. I have hundreds of photos and videos of athletes over the years, here are some. 💫

September went off with a bang! Shoutouts to @gregmarcil, his spouse Briana, and @mikerobe007. Pics 1&2 are Greg and Briana completing the @mountrobsonmarathon Half. This was, impressively, a PB for Greg even though it was all on gravel/dirt trail! For Briana, who isn’t technically a Polaris athlete but is married to one and is a huge support for Greg, I felt quite a bit of emotion for her getting HER turn to choose a big goal and go for it, as a newer runner a half marathon is daunting enough, let alone one at altitude on trail! Huge congrats to G&M! Pic 3&4, @mikerobe007 running the inaugural @black_lung_ultra 39k “just a 40k long run in the mountains” as part of his build for the 80km @bromontultra_trailrunning. Mike has been doing some big days on the feet to build up for a strong second 80k ultra!

"Pick it up, you're a Marcil." Finished half an hour sooner than I thought I would for my half marathon this weekend; 2:30:01 was my official time. 21 km around the base of Mount Robson to Kinney Lake and back. ⛰️💚

Summer highlight: @gregmarcil running his second 50k ultra at @northsunultra. His average pace was faster than his 30k race pace here one year ago, which was also a goal race with a peak and taper. Times and paces aside, we worked intricately on upping his carbs/hour and getting much more purposeful with hydration, allowing him to absorb more training and to feel strong much longer into this ultra than his first one. Greg’s mileage peaked at 66k/week for this build, but don’t be fooled, he was often on single track trail, doing a weekly swim workout, and doing strength 2x week. That line graph on Strava is not a reliable indicator of someone‘s preparation. Greg kept in a weekly “road” workout to continue developing turnover and even PB’d his 10k six weeks prior to NSU! Next year, we will start to include trail specific workouts that force an athlete to dial into effort much more and mentally stay tuned into a “racing” effort on trail. I started coaching Greg a couple years ago through a difficult injury and the gym work will always stay, he has had fewer and fewer injuries and more and more consistency as time goes by! Huge congrats to Greg! He is now taking a bit of a lighter season to help his spouse reach her own goals of finishing the Mt Robson Half Marathon. Photo by @annastetsaphoto

2023 💫 was a hugely variable year athlete to athlete not just in running but in their personal lives. We became closer through it and whatever role running and training played, it has been an honour to walk (run) metaphorically and sometimes physically alongside each athlete. I’ve seen grit, transformation, and values in action. It’s been beautiful and sometimes heart breaking to see athletes face some of life’s most difficult experiences and use running as a beacon of light through it. It’s been affirming as to why I really coach. Yes, we had some spicy results and super fast times, some wins and podiums, some first time marathoners and ultra marathoners, some epic injury comebacks. Yes, I could write a list of impressive results but this isn’t about impressing others, this is about celebrating the humans who are the athletes. They know what they’ve ran and some of these results have been posted this last year. Running can help us, no matter our speed, to journey courageously through this wild life. ❤️ thank you for every memory, big and small, this last year. 🙏🏽

Three years ago, I married the funniest guy I know. 💜 To this day, no one can make me laugh harder. And he's pretty easy on the eyes. 😘

The Edmonton Marathon was a blast and learning experience that I will never forget. It was my first marathon but it will not be my last. (50km Mount Robson 2023) I had been running before I started training at the End of April, plus taking care of a few injuries. My health care team at @kinetic.living ( @hannah_movementtherapist @dralyssaclarkson @foreveryfriday ) recommended a coach which I was a hell of a good idea. Coach Lauren Andrews @polarisathletics was amazing. Her training program was spectacular. I am SUCH a better runner and trainer because of it. I would have loved to put up some stats on this run but my Fitbit called quits about half way through. My journey with that watch is done. Basically I stuck to a 6:50 per/km for just under half the distance. by 20 I had begun alternating between a slow jog (7-6:50) and a 6:00 - 5:50 pace. I played this by ear, while taking the road and obstacles into consideration. There were sections of road that speed WAY up to finish off a km or just to increase blood flow to my legs. I can't remember exactly how many Roctane Gels I took down but somewhere between 9 or 10 while hitting every water station I could. It was a warm day. By km 35 i would pass huge groups of people every km. It felt great!!! I will tell you right now...the nutritional element to the last week leading up to the run was a HUGE help. Thank you again to my coach for providing that. I shared the nutritional info with my wife @bumble.bri.92 and she made an entire meal plan for me for the last days up to the race. Thank you so much honey, you killed it. Also to the team at @formhealth.ca for the care and constant use of their Normatec Boots. If you are a runner or spend a lot of time on your feet....I recommend Normatec. So good. Thank you to all my friends and family for the encouragement and patience while I attacked this challenge. It means a lot to me. A LOT!
