I was invited to join Elektra Festival in Montreal and what stayed with me was how hard it’s become to say where the art stops and the game starts. And how little that seems to matter anymore.

3.4 billion people on this planet play games. More than 40% of humanity, already fluent in worlds built from rules, systems, choices. Roblox, Fortnite, Discord, a whole generation already builds identity, economy, culture inside these worlds. Unreal and Unity now run film sets, city planning models, climate simulations. The tools, the audiences, the logic are feeding into everything from cinema to city infrastructure.

Especially inspiring was Temitope Olujobi’s Hands That Steal From “Other” Mouths a live two-player performance that fuses playable video game, electro-pop, and political speech unpacking global extraction. Is it performance? A game? A lecture? Yes.

That blur is where I keep finding the most hopeful, most alive work, not because it picks a genre, but because it doesn’t have to.

Grateful to Ida Toft, Mathis André, Alain Thibault for the invitation, and to every artist who let me get lost in the in-between. And a big thanks to Quebec Ministry of Culture for supporting my trip.
