Youth Bouldering Nationals 2026

Had the absolute pleasure of spending 359 (10) days working with a stellar crew.

Hard to really put it all into words or in pictures for that matter. We braved the sand storms together and put on a comp we can all be proud of.

Catch y’all soon!

“The Process”

I’ve struggled in the past when trying to combine my two favorite activities of shooting film with climbing rocks. The photos I would take never felt like they truly captured all that went into trying to send a project, or trying hard on a boulder. The drama, the fight, the awe of standing under a giant rock like “yeah, I will conquer this” followed by being thrown down to pads like a rag-doll for one’s hubris session after session.

But just like in projecting, you need to stay with it, keep hammering until the beta clicks, and I think I’ve finally clicked on getting a good roll of film from a day out on one of the projects. It was just the perfect day. It was only us, three lads romping into the depths of Eldorado Park, deep amongst the pines where light shone through to illuminate just the holds it seemed. It was magical watching the light slowly shift throughout the day, lighting up small sections of the boulder at a time. The light itself, while coming through in small sections was intense, and left me in a small pickle. I could try to expose for the shadows, retain as much detail of the boulder and its combatants as possible, or say fuck it, and shoot for the highlights knowing that anything with a shadow cast over it would be lost to the void.

I had only an inkling of an idea of how these shots might turn out since my tenure with Black and White film is much less than mine with Color film, but alas, some times you just gotta wing it. So much so I even doubled down by developing this roll of film myself, and increasing the development time slightly to increase the contrast even further.

The results, my favorite roll of bouldering film.

Please enjoy the fruits of my labor as I post a series of frames documenting Griffin and Dave (and technically myself just not on camera) projecting Barrel Rider in Eldorado Canyon.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to post. So I took a few things that made me happy throughout the past year and helped me become a better person throughout the year.

It was really hard for me this past year. But like the little slabby bitch that I am, I persisted.

I don't know what the next year holds but I know I have good peps there in my corner.
