Sunday Praise! 🙌😇😈😂 . We had the most joyous, whimsical, and weird time with @weirdotunes last night! 🥳🙌👻 There were in the moment decisions, a mic with a mind of its own, singing while cleaning up spilled cider (Ro should have known better), and carabiner slinging. You may not know what to fully expect at Your Sunday Best, but Weirdo left us filled with bubblegum-pink energy 🌸💖 . We love seeing new and old faces trying new and old things. Anything goes on the mic at our Sunday sermons. Are you coming to our next show? . Next show: 11/15 — artist TBA . #groprojectro #yoursundaybest #openmicvariety #poetry playsandplayers

“No one wants to talk about suicide…” — ⛵️ . In honor of suicide awareness month and the work I advocate heavily for, here’s a poem. And if you read on, I’ll explain some of it to you! . The beginning of this work uses the imagery it does to compare the ways we fear talking about suicide to committing the act itself. I use imagery that relates to a form of self harm many who struggle have used to help pull readers further into this experience who haven’t stepped in just yet. I compare suicide to a mistress and anthropomorphize suicide to relate to a broader audience of both firsthand AND secondhand AND no hand accounts, while also normalizing how almost everyone has experienced a moment with this feeling. The “dancing with death as the signs of a plague” is in direct relation to the origins of the danse macabre (popularized after the black plague), and just like the black plague stressing the needs for better sanitation, suicide stresses the need for better compassion and empathy. I end this on a hopeful note, the anecdotal facts from the work I’ve done for the past few years — when we speak with each other about suicide, we prevent it from occurring. . Thank you for choosing to live. If the choice starts to become overwhelming and daunting, bring your friend, Suicide, to my table, and I’ll bring mine, and we will share a meal. 🫂⛵️🌱 . 🎶: Wake me up when September ends instrumental cover by Luiz Naime & If I Die Young instrumental cover by The O’Neill Brothers Group
