POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We had a blast at @groundgallery for GZF4 yesterday ‼️

We took a screen loaded with one of French educator Fernand Deligny’s ‘Wander Lines’, drawings which reveal patterns of non-logic communication, and attempted to use them as maps to connect ideas, sketches, notes, and findings.

Here are some nice pics from the day + scans of our un-finished wander maps!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to use the screen, dig into the zines we brought along, and sat down to impromptu study! 📚 An especially big thank you to @albert_longface for hosting and supporting us on the day!

Introducing... Duir, Leafnora, Fagacae, Danny Treevito and Mother Oak. We've got a feeling this won't be the last time you'll be seeing them...

If we learnt anything, it's that magic happens when you just Be More Tree.

Many thanks to @hannahwhitlow_ for facilitating this fabulous workshop!

What happens when you attempt to move through “tree time”?

Apart from looking slightly bonkers to anyone who weren’t there, you learn something about how trees might experience the world we share. Which, we think, can help us to understand them better.

More photos from @hannahwhitlow_’s brilliant Eco-Drag #TreeStories workshop coming soon!

Liminal Spaces: Home ~ Abroad — Opening Night
On Saturday 12th September, we opened Liminal Spaces: Home ~
Abroad at Ground Gallery.
Weeks of conversations, photographs, writing, experimentation and doubt have finally become a physical exhibition.
Watching people stop, engage with the work and share their own experiences was really really something.
Created alongside the incredible @iamd_ice , Liminal Spaces uses photography and poetry to explore migration, identity and the strange experience of existing between places.
The work began with a question that has increasingly shaped my photographic practice: What happens to our sense of self when we leave home but never quite arrive somewhere else?
At home, we are multidimensional: neighbour, friend, sibling, professional, customer, parent. Migration can flatten those identities into something more administrative-immigrant, visa holder, worker, applicant.
The exhibition explores that tension: between home and abroad, belonging and otherness, who we were and who we are becoming.
The response on opening night reminded me why I want to continue developing photography as a way of documenting culture, identity and contemporary experiences that are often difficult to articulate in words.
Thank you to everyone who came, contributed to the conversations and helped us bring the exhibition to life, and to Ground Gallery for giving the work a home. #photographer #photography #immigrant #africanart #nigeriandiaspora

The countdown to this year’s Unthinkable exhibition is on, and the selected artworks are drifting into HARI for installation around our beguiling untraditional gallery spaces.

‘Adrift with nothing but what I can carry’ brings a wide range of compelling responses to this open prompt, with the weight of these ideas carried forth by diverse practices.

The exhibition of highly original contemporary artworks by more than 35 artists launches on Friday 11 September, 6-10pm. With music by @_cuttycuttycutty_, a taster reel of the Unthinkable Film screenings in their Sofa Cinema downstairs, and a DJ, it will be a night to immerse yourself in an array of fantastic culture, which showcases largely regional talent.

HARI is excited to collaborate with Unthinkable for a second year to deliver high quality arts experiences and thrilling and provocative events throughout the exhibition, which link in with the wider Film Festival.

Follow @hari_artsresearch and @unthinkable.hull
for more information, and a booking link to the launch night.

*Please note, the exhibition is mostly first-floor stair access only
**There will be drinks available, or you are welcome to byo

Cash donations accepted, HARI is a not-for profit enterprise and all money gifted goes directly to supporting DIY arts ideas, events and activities.

Our free family art trail is next Saturday!

Here is a breakdown of some of the activities - for kids young and old.

It's a great way to learn about energy and how we can reduce our bills. We are building community resilience in HU3 and we need you!

Turn up to one of the four locations and get a free map. Thanks to Ground and Lilly (@lillyw89) for making them - check out the last video for a sneaky preview 👀

Monday Musings is an opportunity for artists to share a text that sits alongside their practice or is influential within the development of work.

Emma Jenkinson has been reflecting on her practice for ‘Seen/Not Seen’ - a project, informed by lived experience and her career as a therapist - which explores identity and relationality through the shifting lens of late-recognition of autism and ADHD. She is developing an installation employing shards of mirror and text. As part of this R&D, a number of late-identified artists and musicians have been invited to respond to the project at different stages.

Emma shares with us a poem which speaks to themes of multiplicity and fragmentation in her practice. We invite you to read and reflect on this poem, including via creative response.

Monday Musings will take place in HARI on Monday 17th August, 6-8pm, where you can also see Emma’s ‘Seen/Not Seen’ piece in progress. Doors will be open from 5pm if you want to arrive early to sit with Emma’s work before the session.

On a scenic, relaxing, beautiful old railway line, we biked it from Hull to Hornsea and back again like a gang of mates on their first week of the summer holidays.
Hope to go again soon 🚴🏼‍♂️🌊🐚⛵🚴🏼‍♂️🍦

The Space Between – Pop-up Exhibition & Discussions

We are delighted to be able to offer Fine Art MA / MFA students from York St John University and Hull College Arts Institute the opportunity to experiment and network in HARI.

Bringing existing works to creatively install, and making new pieces that respond to the space, this is an opportunity to interact with an unconventional gallery and production venue and to deepen their knowledge of how their work communicates beyond the white cube.

Come and see this vibrant group of emerging artists’ pop-up exhibition – brought together collaboratively during Saturday – and discuss their experiences of developing meaningful practices, and of working together in this way, at this juncture:

“The space between is not empty. It is where curiosity, uncertainty, and possibility meet. It is where ideas take their first breath, where conversations spark new directions, and where collaboration transforms individual practice into something shared.”

Opening event Saturday 25th July, 4-9pm
Open Sunday 26th July, 11am-3pm, with informal Artist Talks throughout

Some refreshments will be available, but you are also welcome to bring your own.
