Setting goals for your time in Studio can be a great way to measure progress and stay on track. A stronger core, more mindful breath patterning, improved flexibility— or maybe just taking regular respite from a busy week, learning a new exercise or making a friend! Whatever it may be, showing up for yourself in a way that feels good is always a win!

Our Lymphatic System is home to a network of 600-800 nodes that filter fluid, waste, toxins and pathogens from our bodies. It’s intricately interconnected to our Circulatory and Immune Systems to keep us in an optimal state of homeostasis and vitality. When our lymph becomes stagnant we can feel sluggish, tired, foggy, swollen and sore and become more susceptible to colds and flus.

It has a terminus — or major filter point — found under our collarbone. Releasing the surrounding muscles and tissue often compressed by modern, forward facing posture can indirectly encourage the flow of lymph to be filtered and returned to the bloodstream with ease.

On the floor, try a basic back extension or swan, rest pose or mermaid, or pec opener supine, kneeling or standing against a wall or door frame.

The simplest act of breathing is both intangible and highly mechanical. Our external intercostals draw the ribs outward and upward as our lungs fill with air. Our internal intercostals hug our ribs closed as we force it back out again.

This accordion action is such a beautiful trope for life, don’t you think? Where expansion and contraction work harmoniously, relationally, endlessly to keep it all moving forward.

Unsticking our intercostal muscles and hydrating their corresponding fascia allows this ebb and flow to cycle with fluidity. The more space you give yourself the more space you can inhabit.

Try Book Openings or a Thread The Needle on your living room floor, or a Mermaid on the Reformer.

Down time isn’t a treat that needs to be earned — it’s as, if not more, important than your workout itself. Rest and digest mode switches us into a parasympathetic state that supports recovery and repair. True and lasting results begin and end with a regulated nervous system.

Slow down, prioritise calm. Our nourishing, somatic Matwork MELT classes run every Monday 6pm and Thursday 7pm.

Postural correction isn’t as straightforward as “chin up, shoulders back”. Our bodies are an intricately interconnected family of systems that work together to respond to and support the way we live and move through the world. Our tongues are connected to our hearts; our eyebrows to our feet; our armpits to our hips.

Taking a top-to-toe approach that honours your individual body in its entirety will always offer the most comprehensive and sustainable results.

We keep class numbers limited for this very reason — to offer highly detailed and personalised support for every unique body in class.

There is beauty in softness; gentle movement, kind gestures and words of affection and appreciation about ourselves can be healing and harmonising. Even if only for a moment, turn your love inward.

Working the body supine in studio sets a solid foundation for moving the body upright in real life! The definition of putting in the “Groundwork” 😜.

Working our muscles eccentrically helps to stimulate neuromuscular adaptations, allowing us to engage the right muscles in the optimal way. Eccentric movement is a low impact way to build strength, stamina and lengthen muscle fibres — which is often why Pilates is associated with a “longer, leaner” physique.

Try a Double Leg Stretch, Swan or Teaser on the mat, or a Snake and Twist on the Reformer.
