Groundwork was a hardcore band from Tucson, AZ in the early/mid 90's

Groundwork - Today Will Not Be Invisible Nor Silent (1994) /250 Labels: @protaginc @kotmrecords When talking about early metallic hardcore records, people tend to mention bands like hatebreed or earth crisis. I think that these guys have every right to be apart of that conversation. What truly identifies music to me is the tropes that it uses and these guys are really ahead of their time in that aspect. There’s a sort of bounciness combined with pure mania that most bands just weren’t at yet.

One of the best of the many knockout compilations released by Ebullition. Theres a couple of interesting one off bands on this one. I couldn't figure out how to scan that massive poster. #ebullitionrecords #portraitsofpast #frailband #groundworkband #policyof3band

Unbroken - Absentee Debate/Crushed On You 7“ 1995, repr. 2003 + Split 7“ with Groundwork 1994 on Bloodlink Records/Fetus Records. Nothing more to say about this legendary HC-band from San Diego than Live.Love.Regret. Unfortunately I don‘t own the album but these 7“s are also absolute classics with great hits. Of course Groundwork also kicks ass! Emotional hardcore punk from Arizona. @unbroken_hardcore @groundwork_az @threeoneg @justinpearson31g #unbroken #groundwork #threeoneg #bloodlink #recordcollection

Fantastic discography album by the influential political straight edge band Groundwork on Bloodlinknrecords. Their sound is harsh, urgent and metallic with raspy vocals, the total is more akin to Rorschach than to 'cleaner' early metallic hardcore acts. The blockier 90s hardcore groove certainly is present in the music but there's more to them than just that: melody and some more post-hardcore/emo-style passages at times even out the typical angularity. The release itself is only the disc and a booklet in a plastic folder, the bare minimum you might think but the booklet itself has more than just the lyrics. It's a beautiful xeroxed Mini-Zine with all the lyrics, personal 'ramblings' and political opinions and artwork. For once I curse myself not being a vinyl collector because I can't read most of it (the print's too small for senior eyes). But releases like this are the reason 90s hardcore is still my favourite style-era. Highly recommended. #groundwork #straightedge @groundwork_az #90shardcore #ushardcore #bloodlinkrecords

I’m posting one 7”, EP, and/or compilation from 1995 for each day of December to celebrate over 30 years of collecting vinyl. Why 7”s, EPs, and comps? Because that was the appeal of buying vinyl throughout the 90’s. Punk and HC bands released EPs of songs that were often only on 7” or comps. No streaming service. You had to hear it on vinyl or have someone tape it for you on cassette. For years I had a larger 7” collection than LPs because of this. I actually purchased my first 7” in 1993, but by 1995 I was all in. Dec 29: XXX: Some Ideas Are Poisonous comp LP (1995). @ebullitionrecords
