A poem for my birthday. thanks enjoy :)

my birthday has always been the lot. a whole day to celebrate me in the small part that I play in my existence.
I didn’t make me.
I was shaped molded and crafted like clay in the hands of someone else.
Even now, not much of me is my own. I am simply an amalgamation of all the things I’ve ever loved, all the people that I’ve ever known, perfectly sewn together with thoughts and ideas of the ones that I love.
my birthday is important, but not in the celebration of i, but the celebration of who helped me in my becoming.
Become everything that I know about myself
the way that I write,
the way that I smile,
the way that I wanna celebrate everyone else’s birthday, cause I think they’re so special.
So if I must throw a party i might as well have balloons and a cake and shout from the rooftops that I am old
and then I only got to be old because someone wanted me alive.
Let me tell myself happy birthday and feel all the love that comes before me that now get to run through my growing veins.

DanceAbility... I choreographed after years of chronic pain and spending the last 3 years fighting to get the help I need. I took these struggles and put it into the only way I can express my emotions hoping it connects to others, reminding myself I am not alone. With the world we live in disabled people have an overwhelming silence surrounding them. Living in a world not built for them. Struggling to exist, navigating constant pain, constant struggles, searching for hope. At war with their body, their mind, society. Fighting for moments of joy and peace. My goal of this piece was to bring a voice to those struggling and fighting to be heard. When choreographing I did my best to showcase mental and physical disabilities, whether you can see it or not, every disability, every struggle, can be acknowledged and heard. This piece highlights the disabilities each dancer struggles with so while choreographing I collaborated with each individual to make sure the choreography expressed their own personal struggles the way they feel it because no one knows your pain and the struggles inside your body except for you. The blue in each costume brings attention to where the dancer experiences some of those struggles and pain including ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, OCD, wide spread chronic joint pain, Hypermobile Elers Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobile arthralgia, Fibromyalgia, and consentrated knee and ankle pain. Whether its a life long struggle with mental health or chronic condition getting better or worse, every disability is valid, every fight, struggle, and pain felt by disabled people is real and deserves a voice and deserves to take up space in this world.

This was a piece performed in the MSU dance show in mid November but I didn't get the videos til now, it was hard to get the whole thing recorded because of how spread out it was at times so its spliced together between 2 videos
