Six Vienna-based sound artists have been invited to spend several days at Westbahnstudios, where they will compose or adapt a composition for the WFS system designed by the AESR Sound Projection Lab. Cora Leli Hausch (she/her) is a sound and media artist, graphic designer, head of Moozak, and occasionally active in Echoraeume and XOK. She holds an MA in architecture from TU Vienna, exploring the relation between sound and space. As a coder, she contributes to ppooll. Her performances explore sound as physically perceived and states of matter between tension and discharge. © Tilman Porschütz Christian Schröder studied fine arts, media art, and music in Vienna, Weimar, and Moscow. His practice explores sound and composition across media. Since 2010, he has worked as a sound artist in visual arts and as composer and musician in performing arts. © Anna Breit Zosia Hołubowska is a Vienna-based artist, community organiser and researcher. Their projects combine sound, performance and textiles, engaging with queering ethnomusicological archives, healing practices and interspecies intimacy. In 2015, they founded Sounds Queer?, a collective at the intersection of electronic music, sound art and queer activism. © Ronja Kappl Robert Schwarz brings together computer music, sound studies, and architecture to unsettle our senses and evoke vivid images. For over twenty years, he has investigated acoustic phenomena, focusing on the hidden and details that escape perception. © Anna Breit Isabella Forciniti, a Vienna-based Italian sound artist, works across performance, composition, research, and innovation. Her music ranges from crafted arrangements to spontaneous improvisation. © Zofia Jung An Tagen reflects on “experimental” as compositional systems offering unpredictable results, and “electronic” as an annulment of instrumental tradition and return towards aesthetic openness. © Milica Balubdžić Thanks to Jonas Hammerer, Thomas Grill, Patrik Lechner, the AESR Sound Projection Lab and Westbahnstudios for making this happen! Unfortunately no DJ this time. Gefördert von der Stadt Wien Kultur und dem BMWKMS.

Fri, 18.9.2026 Kasho Chualan @kasho.chualan & Ivar Roban Križić @irk_irk_irk & Thomas Grill @grrrr_org Doors: 19:30 · Start: 20:30 Outputs routed back as inputs: a ceaseless circuit of cause and effect. Sounds to bodies to objects to space—ad infinitum. Ever-feeding, never satiated, the network connects us all, existing before and after. The performance serves as a “during”: it allows us to explicate our relationship to the other, to designate a time and space that embeds us as part of the loop, neither positive nor negative, only therein. Feedback is an exploration of the network nodes that go by the names Kasho Chualan, Thomas Grill, and IRK, and their respective extensions. Photo Credit Luka Čabo.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE WAVE FIELD SYNTHESIS LAB A week of working with the Wave Field Synthesis system of the ÆSR Sound Projection Lab: 192 channels in the main room, 32 in the side room. Expect seminars on theory and practice, plenty of time for your own work at the system, and presentations over the weekend. You can work with fixed media or live input in WFSCollider (SuperCollider) and Max (SPAT). It's the first time we're setting up the full system, so it's as much a test run for us as a course for everyone else. Raviv Ganchrow (Institute of Sonology, The Hague) joins us as a guest. A collaboration between ÆSRL, ACME and the concert series @parken.or.liveinthepark , which will host a evening with the system on Saturday 19.09. Places are limited (max. 8). To register, send a short description of your interest to Thomas Grill (grill@mdw.ac.at), by Wednesday, 9 September. More Infos: https://aesr-lab.uni-ak.ac.at/en/activities/wfs-lab

♥️ We are super happy that Rotting Sounds has been awarded as one of the Most Beautiful Books in Austria! 💫 Congrats to the editors @grrrr_org , Almut Schilling and @_lfsaw (eds.), the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna @mdwwien and of course to @astridseme for the design of this incredible book! Rotting Sounds was a multi-year research project that dealt with the topic of contemporary music recording and in particular with the problem of digital storage. Digital music recordings are not statically preserved files, but as such are affected by a creeping acoustic decay. However, the researchers understand this decay and the resulting products as a new kind of music and a new aesthetic. The confrontation with decay ultimately led to all waste being collected during the research period: From yogurt cups to hard disks, USB sticks, cables, clothing. This mountain of waste was finally shredded and turned into paper, which was then processed into this very publication, which formally and in terms of content treats decay and dissolution as the creation of a new aesthetic and thus confronts an aesthetic of collecting and preserving. Softcover, thread sewn, 35 × 40 cm, 32 pages Languages: English/German, edition: 20, design: Astrid Seme, 2025 Texts: Till Bovermann, Thomas Grill, Almut Schilling, Burkhard Stangl ISBN: 978-3-903353-17-6 As well as a huge thank you to all dedicated places we have been invited to talk about Rotting Sounds: @kunstbokoslo @bookbaufestival @mumok_vienna @mdwwien @buecher.at
