🌟 Student Spotlight: Ethan Moore

Ethan is a Global Economics & Modern Languages student and is the recipient of this year's Excellence in Global Economics & Modern Languages award!

Ethan speaks on the importance of the French program, stating, "I’m extremely grateful for having received the Excellence in French award from Georgia Tech’s School of Modern Languages! I’d like to thank the people who have supported me as I navigate the French language. The French program’s instructors, especially Professor Samba Sy and Professor Sophie Kartochian, have provided me with a learning environment that has encouraged me to take risks, ask questions, and undergo meaningful progress. Because of the French program’s encouragement, I was motivated to change my major to Global Economics and Modern Languages, and am considering a professional path beyond the borders of the United States, a long-lived childhood dream of mine."

Ethan will be honored at the Modern Languages awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

🌟 Student Spotlight: April Clark

April Clark is an International Affairs & Modern Language student and is this year's recipient of the Outstanding Senior in French Award!

April speaks on her experience with the French program, stating, "Being a French student at the School of Modern Languages has been an incredibly enriching experience for me both professionally and academically. All of my professors have been incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to my personal growth. My classes ranging from art, business, or politics have been the highlight of my time at Georgia Tech. Through them, I’ve been able to gain in-depth insight about the language itself but also the culture including France and Francophone countries. At my current role in the International Rescue Committee, I’ve been able to better assist immigrant and refugee clients in becoming self-sufficient through my understanding of French. This ability to connect to a wide-range of people is something I truly value about the language."

April will be graduating this may and will go on to pursue a Masters of Development Practice (MDP) at Emory University. She speaks on her commitment to the French language: "Following graduation, I will continue to improve my French language skills and my understanding of how to apply it to my future career in development. At Graduate School, I will be deepening my understanding of how to apply development theory and practice to meaningful, impactful change."

April will be honored at the Modern Languages awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Celebrating Dean’s Scholar Brianna McCoy!

She’s pursuing a B.S. in Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies (Chinese) with not one but two minors — Japanese and Linguistics. An inspiring example of academic excellence and global curiosity.

"I think the Ivan Allen College Dean's Scholarship program is another good way to meet people and make meaningful, lifelong connections. This is a community of people who are driven, dedicated, passionate, and more. Even though I have only been here for a semester, I can't wait to see what the program has in store for the future." - Brianna McCoy

From family journals to future publication ✨
Stephan Beaulieu’s MS-ALIS final project presentation honors the legacy of his great-grandfather and his passion for preserving Haitian literature. Through the transcription of his great grandfather’s French journals, he crafted Un Dossier de Femme—a deeply personal work rooted in history, language, and memory.

With mentorship from Dr. Stéphanie Boulard, Stephan completed the program while working full-time at Georgia Tech and balancing life as a husband and father of two. His next goal: publishing his book and one day creating a mini-series celebrating Haiti’s rich literary traditions.

Congratulations on completing the MS-ALIS degree, Stephan—we’re so excited for what’s ahead! 🎉📚
