Two levels of outdoor living, done properly.

Above: a @timbertech deck built for entertaining.
Below: @zipupceilingandunderdeck transforms the space underneath into a completely dry, finished living area — lounge seating, pot lights, and game nights that don’t end when the weather turns.
Throughout: warm @inlite_global lighting that carries the entire property long after sunset.

This is what happens when every layer of a backyard is thought through.

It’s the little details that help a deck last.

I install the composite fascia first then I complete my field board and border installation. Not the other way around and here’s why.

Water can work its way behind the fascia and sit against the wood framing. Creating that extra protective layer with butyl tape helps keep moisture out, eliminating any future rotting. It takes a few extra minutes now, but pays off huge down the road.

Because the finished decking might be what you see, but the frame underneath is what makes it last.👊🏼

The part of the deck you’ll never see, but one of the most important to protect.

Joist tape helps keep water away from the top of the framing and around fastener penetrations helping the structure underneath last longer.

Protect the frame.
Protect the investment.
Protect your deck.

Terra Cotta Timbertech

This couple had problems in the spring with their sump pump line freezing and backing up in the basement. As a result the deck had to be pulled apart.

Re-Surfaced in Timbertech English Walnut partnered with Vista Railings and in-lite hub75/puck 22 stair lights.

The part you won’t see once the decking goes down is one of the most important parts to protect.

Before I install decking, I like to protect the top of the joists and beams with either butyl joist tape, a flashing tape such as @gtape.canada or @trexprotect, or a roll-on deck-frame coating like @fastenmasterpro deck frame coating.

Why? Water can sit between the decking and framing and work its way around fastener penetrations. Adding that extra barrier helps keep moisture off the wood and gives the structure a better shot at lasting for the long haul.

It’s a small step during the build—but replacing rotten framing later definitely isn’t.

Protect the frame before you cover it. 👊🏼

Sometimes the site decides the design.

This sauna deck wraps three sides of the sauna, with the composite boards individually cut and fitted around the existing natural rock.

Instead of removing what was already there, we built around it — keeping the character of the yard while creating a clean, usable space around the sauna.

From framing to the final cuts, built to fit the space. Here’s how it came together.

Cwood Cedar -I couldn’t wait to share this one! I’ll be getting better photos from @townandcountycollective later but for now here’s your first look!

This yard had a killer outdoor kitchen and fire pit area but no where for a comfy lounge! Now it does! This is our passion, bringing you luxury outdoor living to really spend some quality time in!

Bench Build - Start to Finish 🔥

Gotta love when a plan comes together. Where functionality meets esthetics, Belgard’s artform + Timbertech’s dark oak combo brings life to a great spot to hangout while taking in this backyard oasis!

Thanks to @mosaiclandscaping for teaming up to knock this one out of the park! 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Check out this deck frame. There’s gonna be some pretty cool stuff built off of this and I’m excited to show it off. This was taken about a week and a half ago and a lot has changed since.

This is a wooden deck built with pressure treated lumber from @microprosienna and protected @gtape.canada

To Tape or Not to Tape! the #carpenter edition

I tape the top of deck beams. Do you have to...No...Should you (IMHO), YES!
It prevents water from laying ontop of the beam. The tape prevents water from getting between the plys and being held there in tension. There are more Pro's than Con's to tapeing the beam in my opinion! Do you tape the top of your Deck Beams?
