REAL TALK: While I’m proud of myself for getting back into my movement practices, 6 weeks of sedentary living (including 1wk in the hospital) is still here to haunt me. My strength and stamina have been so greatly diminished that I don’t feel like I’m inhabiting the same body. Every aerial skill feels vaguely familiar but we definitely need more time getting reacquainted before I’m ready to get back into Level 2 classes. Buzz kill aka ego crusher. 😭

Tomorrow, it’s back to the gym to start rebuilding my capacity. 💪🏾

For the first time since my husband came home, I stepped onto the stage to sing a solo with him cheering me on from the audience. I was surrounded by the family, friends, and community who carried us through one of the darkest chapters of our lives.

This is my full performance of “Part of Your World” from our Pride Worship at Middle Church. Written by Howard Ashman—a brilliant gay lyricist who was diagnosed with HIV while working on Disney’s The Little Mermaid—this song has always been about more than a mermaid dreaming of life beyond the sea. It is about longing. Belonging. The hope that somewhere, somehow, there is a place where you can fully be yourself.

As rollbacks on immigrant and LGBTQIA+ rights continue to cast a shadow across our nation, I chose to sing this song as both a reminder and a prayer: to remain hopeful, to stay curious, and to keep singing even when the weight of the world threatens to silence us.

There were moments when tears caught in my throat. Hope, despair, gratitude, and fear swirled around me like the waters Ariel swam through. I found myself longing for our world to be kinder, more just, and more compassionate.

Then I looked into my husband’s eyes. I heard the cheers of my community. I felt the music lift me, reminding me that love is stronger than fear and that better days are still possible.

Until they arrive, I will keep singing. I will keep hoping. And I will keep longing for a world where freedom, peace, dignity, and justice belong to all of us. 💜💙🌈🎶🎵

We’re so excited to welcome Gabbi to the Body & Pole instructor team! With a passion for aerial movement and empowering students at every level, Gabbi brings strength, creativity, and serious good energy to the studio.

1. How would you describe your teaching style in three words?
Keep It Fun!

2. What do you want students to feel after your class?
The other night one of my students told me that she felt “strong, empowered, and sore” after class and that is EVERYTHING I want my students to walk away feeling🤩

3. Your favorite move / combo right now?
Lately in my own independent training time I have been working on my roll ups🙃, and playing with contraction and expansion, as well as exploring the line between sexy and ugly and observing where there is overlap

4. What song or vibe best matches your classes?
“Higher Ground” by Stevie Wonder because at the end of the day aren’t we all in aerial class to reach higher ground?!

5. One thing you want Body & Pole students to know about you?
Laughing, singing, and moving my body are some of my favorite things, so if you enjoy any or all of those things as well, come join me in class! Let’s fly🪶🕺💜💪🏽
