Running IS a TEAM sport :)

My Mammoth race is an exceptional example of what success looks like as a team.

This race presented ‘opportunities’ for a path forward time and time again. (Remember Relentless Forward Progress?) These beautiful people put me back together time - and time - and time and time yet again. Relentlessly believing in me, pushing me, dealing with my bullshit. They did so with Love, Compassion, Empathy, Understanding, Grit.

Everyone who lines up for these races go through their own version of unplanned moments and opportunities to face a stripped down version of themselves - a version that has nowhere to hide. I admittedly carry some embarrassment - there were moments I lost my heart and my head; something I’m not used to. In my corner - I was constantly reminded who I am, who WE are; our team gave me strength to continue with whatever I had to give.

With more highs and lows than I’d care to admit - these races give you years of life experience in a few days. More importantly - they give you a lifetime of memories with your chosen family. A bond that’s so true and real.

To the greatest team on the mountain; and the people I love so dearly. Thank you for pulling me out of the ditch and giving me hope. Thank you for standing by me during the highs, lows, hallucinations and all the well - you know opportunities to bond over…whatever I had going on 🙃

The reality - I could write essays on what makes each of these humans exceptional; and it would still fall short. If you’re lucky enough to have them in your life; you don’t need it - you know first hand.

With Gratitude; and our finish of Mammoth 200 fully dedicated to you. 🐅

I wrote one third of a book. It’s called @fiftyclassictrails.

@ianmaclellan and @rickeygates wrote the rest of it. If you ask me, they did a pretty good job.

@kilianjornet wrote the foreword. If you haven’t heard of him, he likes running. A lot.

@rizzolibooks did a ton of fact checking and grammar fixing. @runners4publiclands gets a cut, but only if you actually buy the book. Otherwise they don’t get anything.

It took us four years. That’s a long time. If you’d like to help us out — or just feel bad that we write so slowly — you can preorder the book with link in my bio. That would be neat.

Thanks friends. This one means a lot.

We’ve just finished up our first of two Hut Run Huts for the year. The trees are hanging on to their summer colors despite the urging of snow.

Grateful for a wonderful group of folks, friends and unique weather my ninth year guiding this crossing.

Tomorrow, we begin the migration again.

Had such a great weekend with a bunch of badasses participating in @runtherut It’s an absolutely #alltime event full of pain, suffering, tattoos (I 100% got a rut tattoo, sorry mom), a runt run for all the future mountain running tykes, and an amazing community of people all looking out and rooting for each other in the mountains. Shoutout to @mikefootemt @forrestboughner and all the crew/volunteers who spent countless hours putting together such an awesome event, undoubtedly one of the best in the country. Can’t wait until next year!⁣

Not your typical marathon training run…

Also maybe not the typical way to beat jet lag…

But it’s 9pm and I’m still awake, I got in a long “run”, and my ankles are still in one piece.

Thanks @runtherut & @thenorthface_trail team!
