Making this to share about the time making a musical for the first time, and learning about the craft of making a musical as part of the @brumhippodrome ‘s musical writing programme, with a really great team: @songuigaby + @kristalmalin1 as well as alongside five other teams of super talents!

Honestly could not have done this without @kristalmalin1 and @songuigaby . Wanna know the hours and hours we’ve spent on this musical? the highs and the lows? The amount of fun and love and effort we’ve poured into our very first musical - and how they have basically been my musical parents 🤣 for me to get into the world of musicals. Thank you two so much, you mean the world 💙

Thank you to @gussysax and timsutton for mentoring us throughout this programme, and for bringing fabulous guests to show their creative process and industry expertise, such as @bakeoffmusical writers @jakeandpippa + @wecomefromaway producer @mrubinoff !!

Credit to @alexbeetschen for arranging all of our music for the showcase, his fantastic keys playing, and all the musicians who played very swell for our show!

Also , we took our musical idea to @mmd__mtn ‘s BEAM Musical Showcase 2025! Introduced to a huge world of new musicals there! Has been an exciting time! massive thanks to @carmenmackey_ and @kanako_nakano for blessing us with your tireless work, and really helping with our vision!

I’ve learnt a lot about musicals over the past 18 months or so, and it’s been as challenging as it has been rewarding! Scroll through to see snippets of the music we made and what the other groups made! You can see their performances and descriptions about their work so you can check them out further! Full videos are on YouTube!!

From self-tape to stage 🎬✨
Here’s Maddie back in first year, performing ‘Juliet Kind of Love’ from Victoria Saxton & Charles Miller’s Marriage à la Mode. The video shows both her original self-tape and her final performance in the production our now third-year students appeared in when they first joined us — a brilliant reminder of how far they’ve come 🎭

🎥 LIVE FROM BECKENHAM LAKE GARDENS!

A highly educational and very calm video of me giving my Aunt-Outlaw (sister in law’s Mum) an ON LAND lesson in UNDERWATER breaststroke as requested by the giggling cinematographer and aforementioned sister-in law @gussysax

I’m very proud of the fact that I managed to commit seriously to the task whilst the camera woman and indeed members of the public simply guffawed 😂

Am I swim expert now?

Probs, yeah!

Is there such a thing as on-land swimming Olympics?

Maybe there should be…

I’d be well good at it!

Thrilled to share a small clip from our showcase, the song ‘Malinaw’ (clarity, understanding, peace). In this verse sung in Filipino, she holds her hand to her heart and dedicates love, promise, and hope to her country and people.

For Señora (and us), home isn’t just a place, it’s people too - and we’re so grateful to have found a home with the @brumhippodrome community this past year thanks to @deirdreeohalloran, @spreadtoofinlaywork, Chris and the brilliant New MT department. @gussysax and @timsutton who created a safe space for all of us writers to explore, our cohort for being each other’s cheerleaders; @justina_kehinde and @alexbeetschen and the entire showcase team for helping our show feel at home on stage ❤️

Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, we hope you feel inspired and strengthened by Señora’s story. Take time to cheer on the wonderful women making waves around the world ✨🙏🏽

What a spectacular day @brumhippodrome! It was very special to talk to their New Musical Theatre Department 24/25 writers group about developing new musicals. Birmingham Hippodrome is becoming a leader in the development of new work and I am hopeful for some future cross UK/Canada collaborations with @theatreaquarius National Centre for New Musicals. I also saw my first @mharrison_entertainment British pantomime and was floored by the joy, ostentatiousness and brilliance of it all. It also starred one of my favourite and hysterical personalities @alisonhammond55! It was loads of fun. Thank you @deirdreeohalloran, Chris Sudworth and @spreadtoofinlaywork for such an inspiring day within your community. Wonderful to also see old friends continuing to lead the way @gussysax and meet some new friends who are doing exceptional work @jakeandpippa @timsutton. 🇬🇧🇨🇦 #newmusicals #birminghamhippodrome

reflecting on a wild 12 months - tons of new experiences in musical theatre, activism, audio, and more. Looking back at all this in disbelief and gratitude for the people and projects I've met! Nearly time for a break 🌜
