. . CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF SELLIN’ ART & MYSELF. x Contemporary Photography For Sale: Jules deNiverville (Montreal, Canada), ‘Lucky Numbers Series, NYC, 1998. A/P (Artist Proof) C-Print Photograph, 11 x 14 inches, Signed & dated on verso. Series shot in New York. PHOTOGRAPHS by Jules de Niverville LUCKY NUMBERS With the assistance of Guy Berube, when I lived in New York City from 1990- 2000. Exhibited @ La Petite Mort Gallery February 2008. I met Jules in the nineties and fell in love with his photography. At this point in my life, I had moved to New York and invited Jules along for the ride. Jules was set up with all the necessities and set about chronicling the big apple – an apple that would prove to be juicy fodder for a canon of sensual works. The show comprises a series of diptychs vivid in colour and ripe in their humanity. The images of these men are documents of a fleeting moment in time: cigarettes half smoked, bubbles floating in the air, moist bodies in the tub and a glance downwards. Many of these men are no longer with us yet the images resonate the people – their personalities, their addictions, their habits, their livelihoods and in this way, they will never be forgotten. Like the written or spoken word, it is a system for elucidating that which evades our immediate understanding. There is a contemporary compulsion to impose trends and to forecast even the most ephemeral and unpredictable of things through the endless collection of data.

. Contemporary Photography Available for Sale / OVER 50% OFF. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” — Ghandi TOU YUN-FEI ‘2011/08/05, 11:58am, Taiwanese Public Shelter, Time until Euthanized: 2 Minutes’, 2011 Photograph, Edition 2/20, Image size 33X42cm on paper size 51X64cm. Signed and edition in pencil on white border. Print in great condition except for some mild creases that would not be visible once framed. Appraised at USD$1200 Offered at $400 ARTISTS STATEMENT: These images record the last moments of life for some dogs found in public pounds run by governmental agencies in Taiwan. These portraits are taken on the very day in which the animal depicted is about to be put down or mercifully killed. These images are but a small fraction of the total body of work in this ongoing project. Utilizing the classic portrait style that originated in the early 19th century with the birth of photography as an art form these photographs offer the viewer a chance to look attentively into a bleak future. These dogs are essential dead and their souls are hours, minutes away from non-existence. These portraits reflect a formal construct or platform through which the viewer and the dog “communicate” using exchanged gazes to create a forced contemplation. Photographic images allow us to contemplate. Through contemplation we gain an understanding of the uniqueness and nobility of life. Through contemplation we understand how chaotic and disordered the world has become.
