A journey supported by opportunity.

We caught up with Guy Buttery, SAMA Award winner and MCSF beneficiary.

The MCSF grant provided Guy with valuable support at an important stage of his career, enabling him to further develop his craft, pursue his creative work and take meaningful steps forward in his journey as a musician.

His SAMA Award was a celebration of the talent, dedication and hard work that had defined his career, and we were proud that MCSF support had formed part of that journey.

Guy’s story demonstrated the impact that investing in artists could have, creating opportunities, strengthening careers and helping South African talent reach greater heights.

MCSF investing in the people behind South Africa’s creative excellence.

🎸 Always a pleasure having these two through the workshop.

Local legends @danpatlansky and @guybuttery recently brought their instruments in for some adjustments and fine-tuning, getting everything dialled in and ready for their next gigs. 🔧🎶

Nothing beats knowing your instrument is playing exactly how you want it when you step on stage.

Thanks for trusting us with your gear, Dan and Guy. Always good having you guys around the workshop. 🤝

A jam session with guitar legends Derek Gripper and Guy Buttery in Cape Town. Text from: Bandcamp.com: Long-time friends, collaborators and leading exponents of the acoustic guitar scene in South Africa, Derek Gripper and Guy Buttery come together for their first outing in an improvised live concert recording captured in Cape Town. First heard as an exclusive premiere on NPR's "New Sounds", the album is something of a melting pot of South African and Eastern influences crafted by two of the finest visionaries to emerge from the tip of the continent in decades. https://www.derekgripper.com , https://guybuttery.co.za , People Photography by Dimitri Otis , http://dimitriotis.com . #guybuttery @guybuttery #derekgripper @derek_gripper #livemusic #africanmusic #bandcamp #musicevent #capetown

The performances will take place across two legs, beginning with three shows in Cape Town in September before moving to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in October.

Vusi Mahlasela and Guy Buttery have been on each other’s records for 20 years.

They have just never performed together live.

Buttery first entered Mahlasela’s musical world on Naledi Ya Tsela in 2006.

A decade later, Mahlasela appeared on Buttery’s self-titled album.

Now the studio relationship is finally becoming a stage.

Their first shared concert series begins in Cape Town this September before moving to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in October.

Two individual catalogues.

Two very different instruments.

Twenty years of musical history.

And, finally, the same room.
