Future PAs from our Grand Rapids and Traverse City programs scrubbed up and showed out last week at their combined lab! 🥼😷

Students participated in two high-impact clinical training sessions. The first was held in the Finkelstein ultrasound lab, where students developed critical bedside ultrasound skills.

The second session in the DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health focused on surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving, providing students with hands-on exposure to sterile techniques.

Beyond technical learning, combined labs like these foster a student community and collaborative practice skills that will serve them throughout their program and careers. Two people in blue scrubs, masks, and face shields hold up Laker symbol with gloved hands

In the hours before GVSU’s commencement, our PA students (now almost officially Physician Assistants!) gathered for their annual program graduation at St. Cecilia Music Center. 🎓

Seeing everyone together, celebrating years of hard work, late nights, and dedication, was truly inspiring. Each of these students has grown so much, not just in knowledge, but as compassionate future healthcare providers ready to make a difference.

We are so proud of you all and can’t wait to see the incredible impact you’ll have in your communities! 🩺

We don't mean to brag, but our faculty really are the coolest. 🏅

Dr. Katie Treston-Torney, a tenure-stream professor in the Traverse City Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, recently shared her journey to becoming a PA, leading provider wellbeing initiatives at Munson Medical Center, and teaching at GVSU in Northern Michigan Woman Magazine.

Outside of work, Dr. Treston-Torney is a professional long-course triathlete and canoe racer 🛶 as well as a wife and mother.

Balancing all of these amazing accomplishments is difficult. Dr. Treston-Torney shares that the support of her community and husband help her keep balance. In her words, "No one succeeds alone. The joy and the impact come from the people beside us, the culture we create, and the way we lift each other up."

👀 CHP faculty spotted in the wild at GVSU Tech Talks: Health & Technology!

Medical Dosimetry faculty Kristen Vu joined Michelle Strange of the Physician Assistant Studies program in sharing how theys are integrating AI into the curriculum.

As Vu explains, “We're able to spend some time really talking about the evaluation piece of it, and how AI can be really great in things like efficiency, but we do have to be very careful about how we use that in our system and for patients.”
