Join us on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. as we welcome award-winning historian Denver Brunsman, Ph.D., of @gwuniversity ( @gwhistory ) to discuss his new book, George Washington and His World, that provides a compelling, fresh portrait of George Washington. Enslaver and revolutionary, destroyer of Native American communities and father of American liberty, Washington filled numerous roles in the Founding Era. Rather than shy from these contradictions, Brunsman embraces them in explaining Washington to a twenty-first-century audience. Combining the latest historical findings with original primary research, this talk provides new understanding of Washington’s rise and influence by emphasizing the people and society who made the first president’s accomplishments possible.

A belated Happy 4th of July! The country’s 250th birthday offers a great opportunity to reflect back on our nation’s shared history and honor the work and sacrifice of past generations. Earlier this year, GW students travelled to England and France as part of the class The Price of Freedom: Normandy 1944 (HIST3044W). The group had unique opportunities to engage in first-hand learning about the history of WWII and D-Day in Normandy, where they presented biographies of soldiers laid to rest at the American Cemetery.
