Fest en Fest 2026 recap

1

It has been a joy, pleasure, and privilege to invite such incredible artists and their work to this year’s Fest en Fest. We’ve loved every minute, from performances and talks to late hangouts, sharing the festival, and experiencing the work together with audiences in Brighton, London, and Colchester.
Like many independent initiatives, we’ve faced challenges, especially around funding. In a world shaped by uncertainty, where many people can’t move freely, gather, or live safely, returning this year with renewed support and a shared commitment to connect felt more meaningful than ever.
Thank you to all the artists and teams who brought such exciting work, and to the audiences who came, watched, shared thoughts, joined discussions, and spent time with us. Your curiosity, generosity, and commitment to experimentation are the heart of Fest en Fest.
Special love to the @rosechoreographicschool cohort, your presence all week gave us the energy to keep going.
This project is about sharing expanded choreographic practices, but also about gathering, exchanging, and thinking together with care and critique, building structures that last beyond the festival days.
Huge thanks to our producer, @michaelkitchin, production team @froudagram & @rubysevinkj
To @iz_whiz & @no_other_thrill for your ongoing support.
To @southeastdance, @vsslstudio, @aptstudiosgallery, @trinitylaban, & @colchartscentre and for meaningful collaborations.
To photographers @lukerspencer and @henritartist for capturing it all, & to all our volunteers.
To our funders: @aceagrams, @fininst_uk_ireland, @swedeninuk, @norwayinuk, @vlaamseoverheid, @uni_roehampton.
To @designprintbind for the website, @kaslassnr for the graphics, & @stephhdances for the social media content.

Until next time!

For What We Will by Stina Nyberg

For what we will is a choreography gesturing towards the work of building something with others. Through hard work and play it investigates the pleasurable work of moulding and being moulded.
What is the work of the performer? How does the effort of collaboration appear? And why are intimate encounters always so messy, painful and irresistable?

Fest en Fest 2026 introduces: Rohan Ayinde and Yewande YoYo Odunubi

Discursive Lunch

THU 26 MARCH, 1-4PM
APT Gallery

i.as.in.we is the wayward, motile collaboration between artists Rohan Ayinde and Yewande YoYo Odunubi. Working across mediums and between individual practices, their work explores the relationship between source material and final output, experimenting with different modes of translation, citation, assemblage, and collaborative improvisation as methods of enquiry. Grounded in shared explorations of Black feminist thought, speculative imagination, and embodied practice, they generate an unfolding landscape, which they’ve termed the “b/Black Expansive Imagination.” Through their exploration of material and movement, their work drifts between text, movement, mark-making, video, and curatorial projects, seeking to develop language(s) that might help us understand new ways of being/becoming in this world.

Rohan is an anadisciplinary artist and poet who, through an entanglement with the phenomenon of the black hole, attempts to excavate an architecture of ideology through the analytical framework of black feminist thought. Their work investigates how the politics of place is shaped by conceptual positions.

Yewande is an artist and cultural producer whose practice revolves around the inquiry, “What does the body need to dream?” She draws on freestyle-improvisation as both choreographic and pedagogical methods to experiment with the body’s present and imagined possibilities

Fest en Fest 2026 Introduces: Nadia Lauro with Noémie Solomon

Book Launch
SUN 29 MARCH, 7PM
APT Gallery

Visual artist and scenographer Nadia Lauro joins writer and curator Noémie Solomon to
discuss NADIA LAURO, SCENOGRAPHIES, a monograph recently published by Les
Presses du réel. Since the early 2000s, Lauro has designed a series of striking visual environments, fictional landscapes, disorienting architectures, and living sets that have played a pivotal role in shaping the field of contemporary dance and performance in Europe and beyond. This conversation fleshes out Lauro’s singular approach and method, and more broadly the role of experimental scenography at the intersection of choreography and dramaturgy in making manifest a series of questions, intensifying affects, and situating dancing bodies alongside key material and epistemological issues.

Fest en Fest 2026 Introduces: Heidi Rustgaard

PERFORMANCE
SUN 29 MARCH, 6PM
APT Gallery

SLOW RIFFS / FIVE STAGES OF YES

SLOW RIFFS / FIVE STAGES OF YES is a transdisciplinary sonic choreographic
work working from Heidi’s one-note concept. Positioned between concert and
performative installation, it unfolds as a spatial sound environment that continuously
slows down—an immersive landscape of sculptural bodies and resonant sound that
the audience can navigate.

The piece reimagines the electric guitar as a gendered cultural artefact, queering its use by limiting its sonic material to a single note. By tuning every string to one note, the work subverts “guitar hero” tropes and masculine-coded notions of mastery. Sound becomes a space of intimacy, care, and refusal rather than dominance or spectacle. Through the sustained repetition of a single note, the piece distils classical dramaturgy into an extended inhabitation of a collective, destabilising state of vibration.

The choreography is minimal, sculptural, and concept-driven. Movement emerges from the body’s relationship to the guitar. Recurring gestures, such as stroking, rubbing, gliding, and strumming, produce resistance, vibration, and presence and blur the boundaries between instrumental play and embodied pleasure, exploring sound as both physical and affective material.

Fest en Fest 2026 Introduces: Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peters with Augusto Corrieri

Varamo Press
BOOK LAUNCH

SAT 28 MARCH, 7PM
APT Gallery

Varamo Press embraces the unexpected and values the arbitrary circumstances in which writing comes into being. Snatching, wording, printing, it gives a paper form to various kinds of literature that have a fleeting life elsewhere.

The editors of Varamo Press, Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters, will share in conversation how and why they do what they do. How they imagine and realize publications, gradually building a catalogue in the process. And how these editorial questions intersect with their own artistic and writerly practices.

On this occasion, the artist and writer Augusto Corrieri will join them for the launch of Compromised by Magic, a new publication in the gestures essay series. In these writings on the intersection of theatre, ecology, magic and darkness, Corrieri unearths forms of knowledge and attention repressed by Western modernity in order to explore ‘particular modes of attending to worldly things – modes of attending that value impossibility, multiplicity, drift, impermanence and dislocation, that hold dear the importance of the un-seen, the un-extracted, the un-consumed. There are things not meant for human eyes.

Fest en Fest 2026 Introduces: Lorea Burge

Performance
SAT 28 MARCH, 5PM
APT Gallery

Double Bill: Looping Practice #3 and Sonic Feelding Action #5

SONIC FEELDING ACTION #5
LOREA BURGE

Sonic Feelding engages in a practice of Deep Listening* and explores the body in movement and its interaction with others and space as instruments for creating sound and music. I approach this research as an untrained musician and through both analogue methods (the body on its own) and technological techniques (looping and sampling). With an understanding of performance being a part of research I’ve been presenting snippets in the form of ‘performance actions’ in theatre spaces, galleries, and clubs. Action #5 presents two ideas:

PRELUDE
For Palestine

SILENCE MOVES

Sound is everywhere, even in the smallest of things. All it needs is space to appear. My mind is occupied with mobilisation in activism and the impact even the smallest of actions can have over time. The voice of movement will ripple into change.
