Paul Scott Gallery: @paulscottgallery August 22nd 2026. This weekend I took a little Adventure South, to Scottsdale Arizona, with my cousin Halee Roth. She is a figure painter based in Northern Utah. She works in oil and her attention to detail is self evident in her work. I helped her deliver some of her latest pieces to Paul Scott Gallery. The gallery was established in 1992, when an American father and son team began importing paintings to the US from Ukraine, just three years after the Berlin Wall fell. This helped in spreading the light and beauty of work by Master Painter’s, whose work had been hidden in the darkness, behind The Iron Curtain, for so many long years.

If you happen to have a depressingly blank wall in your home, that needs some color, your search is over. Check out @haleerothart she’s got your wall covered. Thanks for the invite Halee, I love sharing desert views and deep wonderful, wonder filled conversations about our beautiful earth and the unknown cosmos with you!

Silent Viridian
Oil on wood panel
66 × 102 cm

In Silent Viridian, a seated figure folds inward, one hand resting near her face, her body gathered beneath a deep viridian drape. The pose feels private rather than posed, caught somewhere between fatigue, reflection and self-protection.

Halee Roth builds the image through colour and interruption. Rust reds, muted greys and sudden passages of light move across the wood panel, breaking the figure apart and drawing her back together. At the centre, the viridian cloth anchors the composition, holding the body within a surface that remains restless and alive.

The strength of the work lies in this tension: the figure appears exposed, yet remains entirely her own. Silent Viridian does not dramatise vulnerability. It gives it weight, dignity and presence.

Private inquiries welcome.

Silent Viridian

Halee Roth

Artist Focus — Halee Roth

We continue with Halee Roth in the studio.

Her paintings begin where landscape and inner life become difficult to separate. A body bends like a branch, light passes through flesh as through leaves, and the surrounding world appears at once fertile, wounded, and in the process of becoming.

Her figures remain unnamed so they can carry something larger than biography : grief, tenderness, resilience, and the instinct to endure. Held in private, almost classical poses, they seem absorbed in a world that is also moving through them.

Colour is the force that binds this space together. Shaped by the intensity of Utah’s deserts and mountains, by German Expressionism, and by the sensory abundance she encountered in India, Roth builds her paintings through transparent layers, collisions of warm and cool tones, and flashes of underpainting preserved beneath the surface. Light is not simply cast upon the body; it appears to originate within it.

This is where hope enters her work, not as optimism, but as evidence of an inner power capable of surviving contradiction. Beauty and decay, darkness and renewal, vulnerability and strength are allowed to coexist. The painting does not resolve these tensions. It lets them illuminate one another.

In Halee Roth’s work, intimacy is not a retreat from the world. It is the place where the human spirit becomes visible.

Selected works available upon request.

Halee Roth
