My “ Ofrenda”for the dogs I have sent ahead. On the night of October 27 I will honor them and welcome them home. Marigolds and candles will light their way. I have put out water and treats to give them after their long journey. Their collars are ready to put on them again and a leash to take them for a walk. Papel Picado brightens the celebration. Lastly, I write them each a letter telling them how grateful I am that they choose me, how beautiful they look, young and strong and lastly how much I miss them and each day I get closer to being with them forever.

Some have asked how it all started with Tambo. What life was like before him. Who the guy holding the leash really is. And how the two of us found our way through every high, every loss and every second chance.

It’s all here.

This book is an emotional roller coaster. A story about loss, resilience, hope and a bond that changed my life forever. It’s also the story of how Tambo ultimately led me down the road back to my dad before he passed.

“After years of having a dog, you know him. You know the meaning of his snuffs and grunts and barks. Every twitch of the ears is a question or statement, every wag of the tail is an exclamation.” Robert McCammon
