It is about what happens when one human being truly meets another.

Presence. Play. Humour. Courage. Connection.

Sometimes laughter.
Sometimes tears.
Sometimes simply being seen.

What does the Matrimandir mean to you?

For Hamish, it is connected to something much deeper than a building.

His journey to Auroville began unexpectedly in 2006 — a chance encounter, a spontaneous change of plans, and a bumpy overnight bus that brought him to Auroville just in time for sunrise.

Years later, the Matrimandir has become part of his own journey of transformation and transcendence.

But here's the thing…

There is no single answer.

Through Matrimandir & I, Aurora’s Eye Films is asking Aurovilians one simple question:

✨ What does the Matrimandir mean to YOU?

Their answers are sometimes spiritual. Sometimes surprising. Sometimes completely different from one another.

And that's exactly the point.

We are creating a living collection of personal stories — exploring how different people connect with the golden sphere at the heart of Auroville, and what it means to live alongside a place described as the “Soul of Auroville.”

🎬 Matrimandir & I includes short films, intimate interviews and episodes — with our feature documentary The Centre Within coming soon.

🌐 Explore the series: matrimandirandi.com

▶️ Follow the Matrimandir & I YouTube channel for new stories and updates.

And now we want to hear from YOU:

If you've ever experienced the Matrimandir, what did you feel?

One word. One memory. One story.

Christmas keeps teaching me the same thing every year.

Joy isn’t something you perform.
It’s something you fall into.

It lives in singing a little too loudly.
In food made with love instead of precision.
In stories that have been told a hundred times and still make you smile.

When I look back, what I remember most isn’t what we had —
it’s how it felt to be together.

That feeling still finds me, in new ways, with new people, in new places.

If you’re reading this and things look different this year, that’s okay.
Joy has a way of finding us anyway.

Wishing you a Christmas that feels warm, gentle, and full in all the right ways.🎄✨

Rest isn’t laziness.
It’s remembering.
That you are more than a checklist.
More than deadlines.
More than the pressure to always be “on”.
Rest is how your body whispers:
“Come back to me. Come back to yourself.”

As a kid, I’d find these little boughs to walk under and pretend I was a bride.
Not scary. Not serious.
Just full of beauty and a bit of mischief.

Now when I walk in the park, I remember her again.
And for a moment—I feel wildly alive.

There’s something sacred about remembering not just what you did as a child—
but how it made you feel.

That feeling? It’s still in you.

And when it rises, you don’t just light up— you share that light without even trying.

39 years together.
We’ve had adventures, disagreements, plenty of laughter… and a lot of chocolate.

Today it’s chocolate ganache in Amsterdam — rich, messy, perfect.
We’ve learned that the little treats matter as much as the big milestones.
That love grows when you make space for laughter, even after the fights.

Here’s to keeping joy on the menu — in marriage, in friendships, in families, in the way we lead.
And here’s to never running out of chocolate.

Remember when a rock could become a boat? Or a patch of grass became the ocean?

That childlike wonder never left us. Imagination is still our superpower—not just to look back… but to time-travel into the future we dream of.

Today, I stood on a rock and imagined the Serengeti. I saw myself climbing Kilimanjaro. Not one day. But now. Like it’s already happening.

Try it. You might be surprised what unfolds.

Today, my beloved dad would have turned 95. He’s been gone 30 years now, but oh… his spark still dances in my heart.
A prankster, a mischief maker, and a man of unstoppable spirit — he landed in Canada with nothing but love, courage, and a glint of possibility in his eyes.
Within two weeks, he built us a home, found work, and got us rolling — quite literally — in a car. His energy was fire, and I carry that flame in me still. Maybe that’s why I became a medical clown — to keep the joy alive.
He passed in his sleep at 64, a quiet exit for such a vibrant soul. I don’t have photos with me right now, but I have memories, laughter, and a heart full of his legacy.
We were even born in the same hospital room in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Across from the ocean. How poetic is that?
Dad, thank you for everything. For the grit, the giggles, and the giant heart.
You live on in everything I do.
I love you always.
