Moj drug, moj nezhnyj drug... ljublju... tvoja... tvoja!...
My friend, my gentle friend... I love you... I am yours... yours!

This *might* be my favourite moment in our whole Medtner recital, which is saying something as the programme is absolutely chocka with epic endings!!! I find this one stands out though, for being so personal and heartfelt. Plus it emerges out of nowhere, in a sudden change of mood after a very introspective, intimate song. It really captures that feeling of being so overwhelmed by your love for someone that you have to stop what you’re doing to tell them. It’s a thrill and a joy to sing.

But truly, about half of the songs on our programme have the most insane virtuosic piano playouts, not to mention entire pages of sustained high notes. Singers and pianists, if this sounds like your cup of tea, go find yourselves some Medtner songs…!

We had such a blast last night. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to support us, and special thanks to @atemlicht for being such a champion of this repertoire and for playing it SO brilliantly.

Just sharing some pictures of some of my latest projects this year before the holidays, featuring a number of performances of a very obscure oratorio (aka The Messiah) by that almost unknown composer, the dear Saxon, Mr Handel, with various wonderful ensembles such as @hampsteadcollective @bath_cantata_group and @ensembleorquesta 🎶🎻✨

Every year, I always remind myself of how much Beethoven admired Handel. "Here is a different fellow," he declared: Handel is the "greatest composer who ever lived," and I would "uncover my head and kneel before his tomb." When presented with his works, he said, "There is the Truth" 🎶

The Messiah in England is more than a tradition—I'd say that those second sight-readings on stage are one of the compulsory national winter sports for any musician 🎿❄️. However, winter makes its magic, in the end, it works very beautifully, and after each year's rituals, you start to understand more and more how many chords and ornaments you can sneak into the monumental choruses, and even the safest realizations for those microcosms of the almost-never-rehearsed recitatives 😅🎵

Besides the rush, it’s always an amazing time to share music with great fellow musicians, colleagues and friends, with different communities across the country, to meet many choral societies and professional choirs, and simply enjoy making music together with so many people when the outside is cold and sometimes rainy ☔️🌧 I really appreciate the trust of the ensembles, the conductors, my colleagues -both instrumentalists and singers, and felt fortunate to make music with them this winter!! 😊

Looking forward to next year's Messiahs! 🎶🎉
