POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A collection of mostly fucking terrible pictures of a few excellent days brewing a collab at @runawaybrewery in Stockport and attending the @womeninbeeruk festival and awards in Manchester.

Favourite is obvs this highly flattering pic of me hoofing a super size half and half Hawaiian/Cheeseburger pizza at Tops Pizza wearing full @fumbalinas sparkle, props to the Uber Driver for taking us here at no extra charge and to flatmate of actual dreams @beerfaerie for her smashing photographic skills.

Second up, another credit to Ruth for this pic of me, @robsabobs and @elizadrinksbeer looking like we're in trouble with the teacher during the seminar on Imposter Syndrome.

Loads of other great people tagged and lots of my massive chin mostly out of focus plus free hugs at Fabric Church, to quote Ruth "this is how we die".

Congratulations to everyone nominated for and shortlisted for an award, and special props to the brilliant winners. I had to take a throat pastille yesterday to recover from cheering for you all.

Shout out to @tassin_am and the team at @womeninbeeruk for their stupendous work organising this event and all the real change they have elicited in the brewing industry. Also the judges who had the toughest job in the world and now deserve an award themselves.

Also to Ruth for being my friend and definitely NOT the mum.

Taking care of business.
It feels like we’re getting into the flow of things now.
Beer is flowing out of the tanks and rolling out the door and the taproom is coming alive.
What an incredible night put on by Jen and the whole @worthingfestival team.

🤓 Read “WE’RE SICK OF THIS!” Cask Ale, the Analogue Generation’s Pint.
#linkinbio👆🏻

Last week @carlsberg announced plans to close historic @marstonsbrewery, putting 310 jobs at risk, blaming a structural decline in ale. 📉

Overall cask drinking has reduced, BUT look at who’s ordering it. A quarter of 18 to 24-year-old beer drinkers now regularly choose cask at the pub, up by more than half in a year. Heritage beers with real provenance are leading the way, and brewers who kept faith with cask, like Timothy Taylor and St Austell, are seeing signs of growth.

This suggests we’re potentially dismantling a craft and a tradition at the very moment a new generation is learning to enjoy it.

Big brewers may be giving up on cask. @handbrewco Head Brewer, Kate Hyde (@katemary), believes the next generation are yearning for authentic, analogue experiences and will be the ones to revive cask ale…

ERIC VERKADE: UNDER THE CROSSROADS
An exhibition and conversation about medieval art, folklore and the hidden histories of Sussex.

Crossroads have long been places of mystery. Where paths meet, so do forgotten customs, strange superstitions and local legends.

As part of Weird Worthing Folk Fringe, we’re delighted to present a pop-up exhibition of work by the remarkable Eric Verkade, an artist and folklorist meticulously creating medieval-inspired manuscripts which explore the folklore of Sussex.

Drawing inspiration from the intricate beauty of medieval books, Eric’s work gives new life to the stories, beliefs and traditions woven into our local landscape.

Join us for Under the Crossroads, an illustrated talk exploring Eric’s artistic practice, his fascination with folklore, and the tales that continue to draw him ever deeper into the Sussex countryside.

From old superstitions and forgotten customs to unsettling local histories, we’ll venture into the stories that linger just beneath the surface of familiar places.

An opportunity to see Eric’s work up close, discover the processes behind it, and look at the landscape around us a little differently.

SUNDAY 8 NOVEMBER
Yard by Hand, Worthing

Pop-up exhibition: 3:30–6pm
Artist talk: 4–5pm

Part of Weird Worthing Folk Fringe.

Tickets available via link in bio and here: https://www.handbrewco.com/store/p/eric-verkade-under-the-crossroads

We’d love this event to be accessible to everyone, so if the cost of a ticket would prevent you from coming, please do get in touch. We’d be very happy to make arrangements. Cost needn’t be a barrier to joining us

KATE TUME: DEATH MASKS
An exhibition and conversation about art, death, grief and the magical object.

As part of Weird Worthing Folk Fringe, we’re delighted to present an intimate pop-up exhibition of Kate Tume’s award-winning Death Masks project.

Join us for an evening exploring the relationship between art, death and ritual, as Kate is joined in conversation by Richard Manders of Colonnade House.

Together, they’ll explore what it means to make art in the face of death, the folklore surrounding grief, rites of passage, and the objects we create and keep to remember, honour and make sense of those we’ve lost.

An opportunity to see this extraordinary body of work up close, hear more about the ideas and processes behind it, and consider the strange and enduring human impulse to make something tangible out of loss.

FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER
Yard by Hand, Worthing

Pop-up exhibition: 6:30–9pm
In conversation: 7–8pm

Tickets: £3.
