So much care, teamwork, festive joy and DIY spirit at Hand Of's Christmas concert last night, with a beautiful performance from my dream choir Nine Voices 🎄

And yes, we clashed with Matt Baker at the Glasshouse, but I'm sure he'd forgive us for the debut performance of a new alternative choir across the Tyne! 🪄 STAY ON IT.

We will be concluding our “Coastal Explorations” project tomorrow:

A collaboration between Ex-Easter Island Head + Pupils of North Tyneside Schools, developed and facilitated by the incredible @handofevents

Music for Aeolian instruments, mixed ensemble and the North East coast, performed at the Whitley Bay Playhouse

We have spent a truly educational 7 months working with 70 pupils from across the region to explore the coast, harness the wind to make sound and transform the experience into music - very excited about this one and so proud of all 70-odd of our collaborators!

Schoolchildren taking part in a banner making workshop in the Committee Room at Redhills.

Pupils from St John’s, Bishop Auckland, have spent today learning about the history and meaning of DMA banners, and developing the skills to make their own.

Their new banner will be unfurled during a new performance piece they’ll present to the public on Friday.

Come along and support The Pitman's Parliament Project.

Admission is free. Doors open for a drinks reception at 3.30pm. The performance will begin at 4pm.
St John’s pupils are spending the week at Redhills exploring the history of the Durham miners alongside historians musicians, artists and archivists.

Providing children the opportunity to engage with their heritage and explore and develop their talents is central to the DMA’s plans for the future of Redhills.

The Pitman’s Parliament Project is a collaboration between education charity Hand Of, the Durham Miners' Association, The Parliamentary Archives, and artists and musicians.
