I gave this dress serious consideration before I bought it 4 years ago and it really paid off! Works for all occasions, all year round and with a fluctuating dress size. Especially good during a record breakingly hot summer too, it turns out… (swipe for fringe!)

What I wore for dinner, and where I wore it!

We nearly always forget to take advantage of the wonderful al fresco place to eat here before the school holidays start and everywhere is really busy! So last night (well, very early evening, I was in bed in my PJs by 9pm 😊) we went to @thetruefoodkitchencastlehaven - a highly recommended from me if you’re visiting the Isle of Wight this summer! As you can see, the view is spectacular and the asian-inspired menu is always delicious.

Wearing (ad: some old and newer gifts in here) @oliveclothing organic cotton top (about a year old); @the.wellworn upcycled bag (new - I have a few of this style and I have been using one of them every day for years now); @bontelondon organic cotton shorts (these are new but I’m afraid as only made in small batches they have already sold out!); @marni sandals (about 12 years old)

Popped out for a quick drink. Didn’t miss the opportunity to wear nice clothes (because I’ve spent most of this week gardening, and last week in as few clothes as possible). Also tried to take a picture of the back of my own head which wasn’t very straightforward and got sun cream on my camera lens so the video I took of this look was all fuzzy and unusable. All very professional here 😆

This outfit is made up of outfit inspo spanning over 50 years (sort of). When I first watched The Beatles’ Get Back documentary, I became mildly obsessed with Paul McCartney’s penchant for a black waistcoat. It took me years to find one that fitted the bill but I finally got this one from @elevenloves.co.uk last year and it’s just right. Goes with everything. Perfect.

But then there’s the boots, which I dug out after reading an article in The Guardian about what to wear to a Harry Styles gig (I am not going to a Harry Styles gig). Apparently, boxing boots are the thing, which I thought these were when I bought them around 2002 (🫠). I’ve since discovered that they’re actually motocross boots, but they do the same job. I kept them this long because I really loved them and used to wear them to gig with my band, Trago, so they have sentimental value, too.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, you can find style inspo in all sorts of places, and in my experience, the best ones (and by that I mean the most enduring ones) don’t come from a trend. Plus if you buy (and keep!) what you love, you can join in on a trend by accident!

Huge congratulations to everyone at @p1sustainablefashion - one of the only sustainable fashion design degrees in the country. On Friday I attended the first ever graduation show from the first ever intake of students. I’ve been lucky enough to see these designers hone their style over the last three years, having visited the workshops (an old Topshop building) on a number of occasions.

Incredibly, everything made over the course of the degree (and the BTEC) is made using upcycled and reclaimed materials, meaning that all of these students have been extra clever and creative when designing their collections, whether that’s by using community donations of forgotten textiles or industrial waste from local businesses.

Platform 1 Sustainable Fashion is affiliated with @platformoneiow which nurtured the talent of Wet Leg and Coach Party amongst others, so I’m excited to follow the future careers of these young designers. What an asset to the Isle of Wight!

First post for a week because I’ve been too busy weeding and learning Talking Heads on the drums. Oh, and co-organising an awesome pre-loved daytime rave! (I’ll show you what I bought in another post).

Anyway, this is just what I wore to a family do on Saturday. Cool, creased linen for the heatwave win.

🌹 roses from the garden. The white ones were here when we bought the house but the pink were given to us when their previous garden needed to make way for a vineyard!
