What I was reading as a teenโ€ฆ
Teen Tori had herself thoroughly convinced that if it wasnโ€™t a โ€œclassicโ€ it wasnโ€™t worth reading. Part of that stemmed from the fact that I genuinely enjoyed many of the classics I was exposed to. But the larger force behind this was the stigmatization of young adult novels or anything aside from classics/literary fiction as unworthy. Even for teens!

Thereโ€™s this idea that if a book isnโ€™t written a certain way, by a certain person, or up to a certain standard that it isnโ€™t worth reading. And thatโ€™s just bullsh*t. I fell in love with the Fear Street books when I was twelve. I would check them out in big batches from the library and aside from my dad, no one really knew I was reading them because I felt like I shouldnโ€™t be. Not because of my parents who were extremely supportive of my love for reading and genuinely would let me read anything. But because it wasnโ€™t Shakespeare or some other dead white guy I was assigned to read in school. So aside from Fear Street and the one sapphic romance I could get my hands on (looking at you Annie On My Mind), I was reading books that youโ€™d find on a list with a title like โ€œThe Great Literary Gems of the Worldโ€.

It wasnโ€™t until my junior year of college that I dove deep into the world of YA and I am pleased and proud to say Iโ€™ve never looked back. In fact, a big part of my job is reading and promoting YA books and not only does it bring me immense amounts of joy, but it also feels a little like redemption for teen Tori who was so so good at putting herself into boxes that made those around her more comfortable. I know this was supposed to be a light kind of challenge, but if youโ€™ve made it this far, thank you and this is a friendly reminder to read whatever you want. Reading is reading, and all reading should be celebrated.

Books in stack:
โ–ซ๏ธHot Little Hands by Abigail Ulman
โ–ซ๏ธLove in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garciฬa Marquez

My pal Green Bean wanted to help me with the This or That challenge! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงก

โ–ช๏ธPaperback or Hardcover: Iโ€™m a hardcover fan, through and through!

โ–ช๏ธReading indoors or outdoors: it depends on the weather a bit, but typically I like to read indoors snuggled on the couch :)

โ–ช๏ธBooks that makes you cry or ones that make you laugh: Sad books forever! Let me cry it out.

โ–ช๏ธHero or Villain: genuinely, whichever is more compelling!

โ–ช๏ธEnemies or Friends to Lovers: FRIENDS! I like a good enemies to lovers line, but find them quite stressful lol.

Tagged some folks to join in but as always zero pressure! And Iโ€™d honestly love to see anyones preferences to these questions ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ Stack Challenge ๐Ÿ

I canโ€™t help but mention again how excited I am that itโ€™s fall! The weather has really cooled down where I live and I actually had to wear a jacket this morning!

Thank you @bookwormswilltravel for taking me in the #FourInTheLastFour challenge! There are so many books I still want to read this year, it was hard to narrow it down to four! In the end, I ended up choosing some of the bigger books that Iโ€™ve put off reading. I was also apparently influence by the delightful fall weather because most are thrillers!

Top to Bottom
๐Ÿ–ค Wolf Winter - Cecilia Ekbaฬˆck
๐Ÿ–ค Firekeeperโ€™s Daughter - Angeline Boulley
๐Ÿ–ค Plain Bad Heroines - Emily M Danforth
๐Ÿ–ค The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - V.E. Schwab

QOTD: Have you read any these? What do you hope to read before the end of the year?

Iโ€™ve tagged some people but no pressure!

Also, happy Bi Visibility Day!!! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™
