Because healing doesn’t mean forgetting, and being happy doesn’t mean you miss them any less. Some days, you can feel so grateful for the life you’re living and still ache for the people who should be here to share it with you. ♥️

Today we celebrate our beautiful boy turning 2, and I wish more than anything you could be here to share this special day with us. 🤍 I hope you’re both looking down on Henry, watching him grow, smiling at the little boy he’s becoming, and celebrating right alongside us. I’ll carry you both in my heart today and always. I wish you could be here, but I hope somehow you know just how loved and missed you are. 🕊️♥️

Even when life is good, I grieve the life that might have been. Forever missing my dad.

If you're carrying this too, know that mourning the life that might have been isn't dwelling or being dramatic. You can be grateful for the life you have and still grieve the one you were supposed to have. Both can be true at the same time.

This kind of loss is quieter, and people rarely name them, but it is real. I'm grieving moments that never happened and a future that was quietly rewritten without my consent.

✈️ People see me travelling the world hosting retreats and tell me I'm so lucky. They forget that my dad dying is the reason I started Grief Trips.

My story is not unique. So many of us travel after loss. Because we realise life is short. Because we are living for our person the way they would want us to. Because we're looking for something that makes us feel alive again.

It can feel a little lonely when people only see the travels, and not the loss behind them.

At Grief Trips, travelling while grieving is the whole idea. It is proof that you feel grief differently when it is seen and held by others who get it, and you allow grief to come alongside joy.

And when the loss behind it is witnessed, our hearts for us to appreciate how lucky we are to have found grief friends in each other, given that we can't change our losses. It's hard to explain this with words without experiencing it yourself.

🤍 Everyone is carrying something. You just can't see it. So we walk past each other and carry it on our own.

Grief Trips takes small groups of grieving people away for a week for grief workshops and real travel experiences.

Sometimes when I’m in a grief hole as I call it,
Getting lost in cooking or baking helps.
A new recipe where I have to focus.
Plus some Otis Redding or Pina Colada song.
Something about the methodical patterns.
Something about the singing and creating.
It helps me remember I’m part of something bigger.

Another year without you, another year closer to you, another year of love, pain and happiness all in your memory. I hope you have the best day up there, and I can’t wait to celebrate them again with you when my time comes. They say 10 years on earth is only an hour in heaven, so really you’ve only been away for less than 2 hours but that 2 hours feels like a lifetime on days like this.
