I started listening to Cold Steel ( @coldsteelbandfl ) when the @baywaynj tour lineup was announced. They supported Bayway @hangar.1819. I completely dug their sound. They are from Tampa so they take that Death/Thrash heritage and blend it with hardcore. And it fcking BANGS! Live though! It’s fcking balls out fun. These guys thrash it and blast through the breakdowns. Absolutely an awesome live show. What’s crazy is that JP (bassist) and Brandon (drums) pulled double duty, playing a previous banger of a set with @twopiecedsbd. And still had more to give in the Cold Steel set. Hell yeah! On a side note, JP is an absolute wild man. You can tell that brother is having mad fun on stage and loves the fans. We got love for him too! Cold Steel is now in regular rotation in the office!

I’ve been waiting to see Bayway live for awhile. This past winter their show was cancelled due to an ice storm. But not this time! @baywaynj hit the stage @hangar.1819 in full NJ Hardcore style. Jayway is absolutely in it, and his love for hardcore and the fans is undeniable. He went hard and took the time to talk to the fans. Even showing a young fan love with a happy birthday shout out as well as his HC homie! He broke balls with people and made everyone feel like they were part of the show. The band was shredding as well and I am still stoked I got to see them. Them streets are talkin’ …. BAYWAY! Get out and catch this tour. Jayway and the guys reinforce all that is right with hardcore. So we finally got a chance to see Four Wheel Drive in Raleigh (@fourwheelfuckingdrive ). They were at @chapelofbonesraleigh in support of @haggusmincecore There was a legit buzz before the show. Tickets started selling fast and a lot of fans were talking about the guys from Charlotte. None of us were disappointed. SLAM HAS FINALLY hit NC. Four Wheel Drive sounded absolutely filthy live and they kept slamming. They were having fun on stage and joking with the audience. The fans loved them. They are getting ready to go on a larger tour soon. I won’t be surprised if the next time I see them they are playing bigger venues. These guys got it and are going to make some waves in the slam arena. Fucking love seeing these bands take off. Go see them live and enjoy the nasty dirty sound.

Photo Credential denied. The words all photographers hate to read. But damnit. I’m from NY and NYHC is what I love. The Godfathers of NYHC Agnostic Front were opening for Turnstile in Raleigh. By any means necessary, I’m shooting the boys! Armed with only a point and shoot 28mm camera, that shoots only black and white, I entered the mosh pit and got to the railing. What a show and they sounded great! NYHC DIY ethos in full effect. Agnostic Front was incredible and shooting them was amazing. It’s also the first part of an amazing piece coming on rag-media. More photos and write up are currently published at www.rag-media.com/agnostic-front Check it out! Long live hardcore.

Omaha’s Catsclaw came out swinging at a sold-out Chapel of Bones, opening the night for Volumes with an absolutely crushing set. Blending metalcore with thall-heavy grooves and industrial textures, Catsclaw brought serious weight to the room. filthy breakdowns, punishing low end and the kind of heaviness you feel in your chest. No easing into this one. Catsclaw set the tone early and set it HARD.

On Tuesday night Extortionist hit the stage in support of @thebrowningofficial in a sold out show at @chapelofbonesraleigh These guys bring a deathcore with vicious Midwest beatdown style breaks. They hit the stage and had the crowd moshing in no time. I felt they sat in that KublaKhan and Claymore vibe but they had a little more going on that really got me moving. On top of a killer set they also had one of my favorite merch shirts of the season so far. “divorced dad deathcore club”. IYKYK. Looking forward to seeing them again in the future. Write up coming on www.rag-media.com @extortionistnw

To have the opportunity to shoot this show was a completion of a circle. ⭕️ Keith Morris, started with Black Flag, kicks on with Greg Hetson back in 79-80 to create the @circlejerksband Circle Jerks. There are a handful of punk bands that have felt like the soundtrack of my life. These guys are a big part of it. Sold out show at Cats Cradle and the crowd was amazing. There were youngsters and geezers like me. The fact that the Circle Jerks can still reach the youth today and sell out a room of over 700 shows they are iconic. The crowd was in it and they nailed it, in a very South Bay way! I will have more to say on rag-media.com this week. Check it out, plus there will be a photo dump for the entire show. The lineup today is intact and Castillo on drums is incredible. This wasn’t nostalgia, it was punk and banging all the way.

There comes a time, a time when you witness the originals. The “OGs”. Negative Approach is that band. @realjohnbrannon aka John Brannon banged out an original style beyond punk. Back in ‘81 he brought an aggression that opened the doors to hardcore. He’s that guy! Thursday night in Carborro there were kid more than half my age slamming and moshing as Negative Approach reminded us all… there are always founders of an origin story. John created that runway that gives us hardcore! The last pic sums it up, IYKYK. More to come on rag-media.com

There are times when you get to see something special. That was Thursday night @chapelofbonesraleigh @outofreach.336 took the stage in support of @officialsheerterror What made is pretty incredible was their frontman was “5150’d” according to the band. That’s pretty fcking punk. So they decided they would play the show anyway. That takes balls to go out there and open for a legend without your vocalist. These guys did it! They crushed their set and let the crowd know who they were, what they stood for, and they were here to get down. I became a fan of these guys. They definitely have the drive and balls needed to make a run at this music lifestyle. Mad respect and props to these guys. Go support them, see them live. I think they might have an album coming out in the near future. @dylam_wolmfe @mirageofdesire (absent) @reggie_slaughter_ @elliottedmonds1

That just happened Burn Kit came out of Boston in 2024 and somehow managed to cram everything I love about music into one band. Post-punk darkness, new wave melody, hardcore energy, punk attitude. They call it Hardwave, and honestly, that fits better than trying to shove them into one genre. They’ve toured relentlessly, built this thing DIY, released Hardwave earlier this year, and are now working toward their first full-length album. But seeing Burn Kit live is what completely fucking sold me. There’s an energy to this band that recordings can’t fully capture. It’s dark and melodic, sometimes dancey, sometimes atmospheric, and then suddenly it hits you like a hardcore band. That post-punk/new wave/hardcore collision is basically wired directly into my brain. And the guys themselves? Fucking chill. Genuine. Cool as hell. The kind of people who make you want the band to succeed even more. I don’t throw this around lightly: Burn Kit is already one of my TOP 5 BANDS OF ALL TIME. Yeah. I said it. Go fucking see them

Thursday night at @chapelofbonesraleigh the NYHC OGs Sheer Terror took the stage. Supported by @burnkithc / @naturalendhc / @outofreach.336 They hit us with their classics and sounded amazing. After all these years, since 1982, they demonstrated what the core of NYHC is. Paul would take time out to talk some shit with the fans. Tell stories, and remind people that Hardcore hasn’t become woke. It’s ALWAYS been woke. Always be aware of others. It was probably my most favorite show of the past year. Image 16 is classic Paul. Having a seat, holding court and toasting the crowd. Paul doesn’t give a shit if you don’t like him. Picture 19 sums it all up. To quote Paul “don’t be a dick.” Be sure to check out www.rag-media.com for the write up and official show pics later this week.

On June 11, 2026, a small band out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, hit the stage with a big sound. Selfish Means took the stage at Chapel of Bones in Raleigh Follow the link in the bio for Rag Media News and Reviews for the full write up. This is one of the newer North Carolina bands worth keeping an eye on. They are authentic, genuine, and committed to the scene. If they keep doing what they’re doing, it won’t be long before they’re playing bigger stages and larger festivals. Hardcore and Oi! to the core. You’ve got to love the North Carolina scene.
