PILOT ANALOG LAB FOR MØRNING STUDIO

We partnered with @morning.fyi to bring 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕸𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝕭𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝕭𝖔𝖔𝖐 to life.

MØRNING was born from creative overmatter, f̴̢̨̗̤̰͉͉̼͎̝̈̋́͐̿̑̈́r̷̗̂o̵̧̪͓̬͉̹͍̹̊͗͋͒ṃ̷͔̙̰̬̞̄̋͘ ̸̛̳̳̂̓̍̏̈́̾ͅt̶̹̗̘͖͍̥̳̰̆͑̀͗̆̈̇͋ͅh̷̢̳̗̩̘̗͈͑͐͂̕ͅę̶̜̩̝̱̙̣̫̝́́̚ ̶͙̲̥͇̹̟̞͈̀͋r̵̡̦͎̻̳̳̘̼͑̉̕͜ö̷̻͓́̎̊͆̈́̽̏͑̋̐t̶͓̽̌̚͠ of a broken industry. 🟢 @studiogroundfloor worked with 🌈 @abcdinamo 🌈 to create a bespoke typeface, Hackney Daily, used in their designs for the new green heritage plaques for London’s borough of Hackney 🟢

📚 Having dived into the borough’s archives, making sure the plaque’s design drew directly from the area itself, Studio Ground Floor was taken by Hackney People’s Press’ community information board. This particular image is an example of its postings from between 1973 and 1985. As a result, Hackney Daily – and the plaques – mirror the borough, carry its rich visual history, and embrace its character and warmth, instead of drawing from a place of pomp or ceremony 📚

✏️ @fabianharb and @mikenigra from Dinamo ✏️ saw the similarities between the original type and ABC Daily – a typeface that was in beta at the time – and kindly volunteered their time to create a bespoke cut that referenced the form and weight of the noticeboard.

🏺 Then, when it came to translating the type to clay, further optical adjustments were required, opening out space between slabs so that the glaze didn’t bleed and make letters join together 🔠

It turned out well for everyone, and even led to the creation of heavier weights in the ABC Daily family!

🟢 Thank you again to Ned Heywood and Julia Land (the master ceramicist behind the plaque), @fabianharb @mikenigra @abcdinamo @hackney_society @gordonshrigley and @jachapman8226 🟢

❣️ If you’re in Hackney, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more plaques popping up❣️

🟢 @studiogroundfloor have designed Hackney’s new heritage plaques 🟢

We’re super-duper excited to share what we’ve been working on for the past year or so. Working with @hackney_society, Studio Ground Floor have designed the new green heritage plaques popping up around Hackney 📍 to celebrate the influential, until-now-unsung heroes that so greatly influenced the borough, the city of London and Britain as a whole 🤝

The ceramic plaques are handmade by 👐 Ned Heywood and Julia Land 👐 (pictured on installation day) who also make the blue plaques for English Heritage. Working with the two, we found a remarkable green glaze that uniquely patinas plaque-to-plaque, whilst feeling like an unmistakably ‘Hackney’ green 🟢

The first plaque was erected in honour of Edith Watson. Edith was the first female police officer and a suffragette, born to a single mother at the former Hackney Workhouse site on Homerton High Street, where we have installed her plaque.

As part of @riocinema ’s 🎬 Rio Forever 🎬 programme, Hackney Society’s second plaque was unveiled to celebrate Clara Ludski, the pioneering woman behind the renowned, Grade II listed, Art Deco cinema in Dalston 🎥

There is plenty more to share about Hackney’s new green plaques – including an incredible bespoke typeface kindly designed and donated by @abcdinamo that we commissioned based on the borough’s old community notice boards – which we’ll post about soon 🟢

In the meantime, thank you to everyone involved: @hackney_society @gordonshrigley @jachapman8226 @abcdinamo @riocinema

Keep your eyes peeled as more plaques pop up around Hackney ❣️

‘Adagio’ is the title of photographer @lauraghez new book and their respective body of work. In its simplest terms, it means to go slow, with no rush 🌱 Working with Laura, we mirrored this feeling through the editorial design, with interstitial statements setting the pace of the book, and in the materiality of the cover, with its subtle twinkling serene sheen ✨

Thank you @lauraghez for the brilliant, fun and thoughtful conversations along the way 🌻

🍎TypeOne Issue 10 is on @itsnicethat !!🍎 — we chatted to them about what went into designing, editing and making the tenth issue of the mag!! A pleasure and a joy🍎

Thanks as always to @amberweav_ @type01_ for trusting us to design the mag from the very first issue five years ago, and this time, for giving us the space to be editors too 🤝🌼

Also! Thank you to every contributor and writer, you made it a very special issue indeed! ❤️
