“Lizzy” by Maddie Regent out now🌷🕯️ @maddieregent

I’m so proud of Maddie and this song—it’s another one of my favorites we’ve ever made and it quickly became the centerpiece to this new project. Sometimes complicated love stories are the most romantic, but then you look a little closer and it’s actually incredibly simple; usually the story is complicated, but the love isn’t. Lizzy doesn’t fully realize that yet, but she’s starting to. I always love being inside Maddie’s brain as we write songs, but I especially loved getting inside the mind of Lizzy for this one too.

And go watch the awesome video that just came out! It was a pleasure lurking behind the scenes watching Maddie totally in her element bringing this world to life.

Special thanks to @harperjamesx for helping us make sense of a pretty insane production. This one felt like even more of a house of cards than usual—luckily he’s got a surgeon’s steady hand, as well as a magician’s sleight of hand.

Thanks team💙

I don’t know what I’m trying to find but I’m searching for a sign!!

When I wrote this one, I genuinely thought I would never share it but somehow it has become the song that resonates with people the most. Thanks for listening, hope you love it as much as I do 💚

I’m incredibly excited to announce my new album, “Safer at a Distance,” will be coming out November 13th. You can pre-save it at the link in my bio.

I’ll have much more to say on this when the album comes out, but I couldn’t have made this without legend @harperjamesx by my side pushing me creatively and always taking an approach of curiosity and care. Or without @maddieregent being my first audience for every song I wrote and encouraging me to keep making time for it and getting it across the finish line.

It feels funny calling this my debut album, even though it technically is, because I’ve made so much music over the past 6 years—both for myself and others. But it still has the energy of one to me and is maybe my first fully formed, complete thought as a solo artist. It’s an existential road trip album that’s neither about the departure nor the arrival, and at times it’s even uncertain of the intended or desired destination. When you’re in the car barreling down a highway, there’s a reckless elusiveness from the outside but on the inside it all feels still, outside of the occasional shudder, and everything out the window is a blur. That’s what this album is to me. It’s being in that car. When you’re in the middle of nowhere, you’re never anywhere but where you are. A “loading grid and a you-are-here dot,” if you will.

Tracklist:
1. Make Me King
2. Oasis
3. Lake Michigan
4. Crashland
5. Still Turn This Around
6. Halfway Out My Mind
7. Staring Contest
8. Treestruck
9. Give It Back

It’s with equal parts joy and sadness that I share that my studio mate, work wife, co-conspirator of the past 13 years here at Degraw, @harperjamesx, has packed up and moved to Maine. Normally he would proofread posts like this, but alas, I’m on my own now, and I’m not proofreading anything. I’m filled with joy for all the time, formative music-making experiences, and memories we have together; that somehow he made out of here alive—it feels like a minor miracle to escape to the city to the “country”, that he and his fam are getting settled in their new home, that all of his gear made it safely, and that he’s set up and ready to mix! The sadness is inevitable when you think about the absence of someone who you spent thousands of days with, which in large part is why I’ve put off writing anything at all, but in reality, while it’s a strange new world sans Harp, it feels like we finished this phase of our lives like champs. We got in some proper Brooklyn long walks, existential talks, and somehow boxed up a lifetime of gear, which I still have no idea how all fit into B.

@aemaury and @leahdunndunn are legends and showed up bright and early to get everything loaded into the uHaul. And just like that, it was done. If any of this doesn’t make sense, that’s OK; you may not have spent enough time at Degraw. (That’s OK, there’s still time; we still out here.) Harper has been such a huge part of Degraw (and always will be). One of the things that I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older is that the friendships that last are not the friendships of convenience; that so many of my close friends live far away; and that we still stay as connected as ever.

I’m telling everyone that Harper will be back from time to time to make some music and some chaos, as I’m a believer that you can speak things into existence. 🪉🤘💙

“Flatearther” out everywhere now🌎🥤 video also out now on YouTube and will post it on here in the morning🎥

There can be freedom in stubbornness and truth in a manufactured reality. Some of us need to sail in a straight line long enough to get back to where we started. For some of those people they need to prove the earth is round, for others they might just like sailing.

This is the final single before I put the album out (which I will announce very soon) and it’s also the closing track of the album. I had a blast making this song with @harperjamesx and it might even be in my top 3 favorite records we’ve ever made together. He tried to convince me the world was round but he never had any truly compelling arguments.

Thanks team💙
