Once Buddha asked his disciples,

“Tell me what is Zen?

The first disciple said,

“Zen is washing the dish with lot of awareness.”

Buddha heard the reply and asked the second disciple,

“You, tell me what is Zen?”

The second disciple said,

“Zen is about washing the dish, as if I’m meditating and not washing the dish.

Buddha heard the reply and asked the third disciple,

“You tell me what is Zen?

He third disciple replied,

“Zen is about washing the dish with mindfulness, with awareness, with consciousness, making the washing of the dish into meditation.

Buddha heard the reply and started looking at the sky with a disappointed face.

The disciples noticed Buddha and then they asked him,

“Master, you tell us, what is Zen?”

Buddha said,

“Just wash the dish.”

Expectations rob of us of gratitude and joy—when we lose perspective.

A former NHLer once told me:
“The higher level you play, the more players complain.”
And it’s not untrue..

The thing we strive for always becomes the standard when we arrive there.

The root cause of our problems isn’t needing more. It’s neglecting what we already have, but are blind to.
