HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design, University of Gothenburg

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When @maddieleachartist first met the LTH fountain in 2018, she did not imagine that she would write a book about it :)
But that’s what she has done, developed through a period of sustained friendship with this enigmatic public object.

The book is one of the results of the research project Maddie has led from 2021 to 2026, titled 'The Fountain: An art-technological-social drama'. The project received funding from FORMAS (a Swedish government research council for sustainable development) and initiated a partnership between HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg, Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering (LTH) and Skissernas Museum.

'The Fountain: A Biography' is published by @nullvoidbooks in Lund.
254 pages, 76 illustrations, hard cover
.
Book design by @jonas_williamsson

BOOK LAUNCH & CELEBRATION
Planned for Saturday 28 November, 15:00-17:00 at Skissernas Museum, Lund.
(Fingers crossed for the printing and delivery…)

More on this to come.

📅 23 October 2026 at 19-20
📍 Kronhuset, Gothenburg (free entrance)
📅 24 October 2026 at 19-20 plus bar
📍 Kinesiska muren, Gothenburg (tickets in bio)

I invite you to a different kind of happening.
Together with the Gothenburg Alternative Orchestra, I will perform a mythopoetic reading: 💛 a love letter to the Moon. I mean, it is the biggest stone we are in relationship with, after all. 🌙

How does one listen to stone? Can you?
Listening to Stone is part of an ongoing artistic enquiry into our relationships with matter, time and space, exploring what happens when science, mythology, sound and embodied experience meet.

Perhaps listening is not only about what we hear, but also about what we have learned to notice, and what remains unheard.

Come and listen with us!

Some reading and theory for those interested:
Donna Haraway talks about how knowledge is always situated: we never see the world from nowhere. We see it from somewhere. Pauline Oliveros practices Deep Listening, inviting us to expand what listening can be.

@hdk_valand

Denn ERASMUS+ bedeutet nicht nur, Europa zu entdecken, sondern auch, neue Ideen zu entwickeln und den eigenen kreativen Weg weiterzugehen! 💫

Und du? In welchem Land würdest du gerne ein Auslandssemester verbringen? 👀

What do you do when the technique you need isn’t in your immediate surroundings?

You go looking for it.

This summer, Metal Art student Eloise travelled to Fez, Morocco, to learn traditional coppersmithing techniques and bring new knowledge back into her own artistic practice.

A small workshop-language discovery along the way: in Morocco, brass is often simply called “copper,” while copper is referred to as “red copper.”

Learning doesn’t stop when the semester does.

Hi from the marine research station at Kristineberg, 🐟🌊💙where I’m currently doing research and gathering material for a larger body of work.
The question is: What happens when we move beyond the human as the observer?
Why would we do that? And what information might we be missing when we rely primarily on visual and sonic information, rather than embodied ways of sensing and relating to the world?

THIS IS GOING TO BE WILD TO RESEARCH!

I mean, when we talk about listening, we tend to think about hearing, right? But I’m only beginning to realize how much there is to explore, understand, and feel, and how much our perception of the world might actually shift when we start paying attention differently.
A huge thank you to all the brilliant artists, musicians, composers, biologists and researchers thinking together during these days. It’s incredibly valuable to be part of these conversations and to have our perspectives challenged by one another.
Extra thanks to our wonderful artistic researcher and course conductor, Åsa Stjerna, Laurent Duchatelet for the fluorescent sea pens; @maximeve and @ie.konst for the video (and underwater filming!!!)

More to come very, very, very soon!

HDK-Valand Masterprogram in Fine Art Photography — ’Last One Out Turns of the Lights’ opens tonight at 17-20

✨

It is not only a highly individual practice to study Photography at master´s level, but it is also a collective pursuit where the students co-exist in time and space. An imaginary construction, a building of sorts, is created by the ideas, references, works and analysis that everyone is bringing to the table. Rooms and winding corridors are created, stairs that reach for faraway spaces in the attic and windows that offers perspectives in relation to the outside world. This house is being constantly rebuilt.

Last One Out Turns off the Lights, is an exhibition at Galleri Format that presents the photographic work of ten students who are exploring photographicnessfrom different points of departure. The common denominator is that they have all shared as well as contributed to the forementioned building for the better part of three semesters. Another aspect that unites the class is the love of photographic materialities, histories, techniques and expressions. Last One Out Turns off the Lights invites the visitor to step into this temporary building and explore its atmosphere, poetry and statements.
