Snippets from 🇵🇪 - saving grace when you’re down physically and emotionally.

Visiting the doctor made me realised that I shouldn’t wait for myself to be very sick. In fact, I’m the most sickly person over there with all the symptoms all over me. Doctor just asked me to rest and rest. This is an awakening call that I no longer fit.

Slept throughout the day with fifteen minutes in between to take my meals and medication. Off to rest again. Goodnight!

Just got back from Vientiane and the UNESCO town of Luang Prabang, and one thing stood out: how effortlessly tradition and modernity coexist there.

At 5am, I was joining the alms-giving ceremony in the quiet morning mist. A few hours later, the same streets were filled with people/influencers snapping photos at trendy hotspots.

Walk past rows of buildings frozen in the '80s and '90s, turn a corner, and you'll find a White Lotus-vibe boutique hotel.

Ride-hailing apps, QR payments, and the modern Laos-China Railway sit comfortably alongside centuries-old traditions.

Laos feels like a place where the past and present peacefully living side by side.

Definitely worth a visit.

P.S. Come between October and February if you'd rather not melt. ☀️

3rd time here and we finally made it to the top. Guess they’re right, third time’s the charm.

Had a leg cramp halfway through and thankfully it eased off after a while. Moments like this remind me how alive I am and also how much more I need to take care of my body. Time to give it the attention it deserves and build something stronger.

Yay, we made it to the 7 Lakes of Ausangate after much resting! It’s just so easy to just rest and relax in Cusco with a slower pace and soaking in the moment. 😝

The hike starts from Pacchanta Village which is the doorway to the sacred Ausangate mountain. Though it’s pretty flat, it’s a challenging hike because of the high altitude which sits at around 4,600m above sea level. One word for sure - stunning! I remember my focus throughout is to breathe and keep moving. There’s no presence of time and you’re just in awe most of the time.

I miss being with Mother Nature. Moments like this remind me to keep myself active and healthy so that I can keep moving. The fear is real.

One lady who works as a lawyer for the Columbia government asked this question - is Singapore in poverty? 🤭

When travelling in Asia and Europe which most people are doing including myself, we tend to take it for granted on our global presence. With this trip, I come to appreciate our foreign affairs ministers and Singapore tourism board on how well people know us. Being such a small country, we could have been easily forgotten or be linked to C. To share context, Peruvians speak Spanish and they’ve varying landscape from coast to mountains and to desserts. Surprisingly when we said that we’re from Singapore even in the less developed cities, they’ll mention either the ship on top of the building - MBS or waterfall in the airport - Jewel. Isn’t this impressive? 👏

Feliz Navidad! 🎄

I love how we spent the last day in Cusco checking out a very good cafe where I started learning Spanish on duolingo and headed back to Mercado Sun Blas for lunch. I love the engagements with the people and it’s one of my key highlights. I dislike the slope but I’ll still head back if there’s a chance.

First time spending this festive season overseas and it just hits different. Simple joy and grateful to be able to experience it then and there. Thank you Teedada for accompanying me to stay up late for the countdown together! It was pouring heavily and we were thinking if the celebration is still on. Glad that it did and people were just having fun, putting up their own fireworks! Cool~ check out the headbands that we wore! ❤️❤️❤️

Woke up early on Christmas to catch the flight to Lima, exploring Jockey Plaza and dinner at @panchitasazoncriolla with Jorge and Alex. Mucho gusto Alex! Started to feel unwell in the plaza probably due to various elements like the weather and lack of proper rest, underestimated the cold and wasn’t prepared - biggest lesson of this trip.

Fell sick after coming back from Machu Picchu and thank you Teedada for being very patient and taking this whole trip very slow for me to recover. Running fever + menses sucks and I remember crying in the room feeling all emotional after I woke up while HD is reading in the lobby. Body is wrecked man.

Oh, forgot to mention that I lost my specs in wild rover and had to get a new one. First time doing specs in a country where I struggled with language. Google translate for the win! There’s always a first and just go with the flow.

Went to visit another Mercado that is bigger and closer to where we stayed and it’s a little intense. Peruvians can eat grilled banana, fries and egg with rice which I can never wrap my head around it. Understand that they need to provide the best way to have energy. Tried - it’s interesting and actually not bad, just not something that we’re familiar in our food culture. Somehow I love pollo. 🐓 is so delicios.

Changed hostel and doing our favourite thing - nua again. One location per day and that’s it.

Went back to Mercado San Blas to try the ceviches and most importantly to check out @brewbros_cafe. They’re the first speciality coffee that opens in a Mercado. Very inspiring and impressive especially when you’re a group of very young people trying to do business in a setting with experienced folks. They were sharing that it’s hard to get good coffee in Cusco cause most people will only pay 40sol/KG and the good coffee beans are usually 60sol and above per KG. Support them by getting coffee beans from them for HX and she likes it too!

Time flies and that’s how we spent the three days living like a local in Cusco.

Oh we even spotted a hotel Singapura! 😲

Woke up at 5.40am to depart two hours later for the 2D1N adventure to Machu Picchu.

The Sacred Valley is 37km long and stretches from Pisac to Ollantaytambo.

1st stop: Pisac archaeological park is an extensive complex with magnificent agricultural terraces and ceremonial sites. It has such a stunning panoramic view and it’s so peaceful to be just there and breathe. On a side note, guide was sharing that the bodies are mummified and positioned into 80 X 80 inch fetus position to signify rebirth when they’re buried. The internal organs are removed and burned while they used salt to preserve the body. Their descendants used to climb up the trail to workship them.

Next stop: Ollantaytambo archaeological site has astonishing stonework and feature the sun temple. It is a massive unfinished inca structure with precisely cut rose-granite stones, showcasing advanced engineering. The houses on the mountains are their storage room with airflow and wind blowing strongest towards that direction. How smart are the early civilisation? Have we become dumber? I think so! The next thing that wow me is the natural rock formation on the mountains which revealed the faces of the Incas.

Ollantaytambo 🚂 Aguas Calientes
Breathetaking view and met a lovely lady - Julie or Julia, can’t remember her name. All I remember is the peace and the very long train ride.

Hola, Buenos Dias from Lima 🇵🇪!

Interesting architecture with the popped out of the wooden sculpture of the balcony. Wondering if they’ve the changing of guards in the palace but I would think that it’s much nicer than Buckingham palace.

My favourite is Museo del Convento de San Francisco y Catacumbas. Highly recommend this interesting guided tour to learn about Peru’s history. It is a monastery for 300 back then and it’s now left with 45. Library contains 20k books. Musical scores were huge in the past and printed on lamb skin so that the choir members could see them clearly from their positions. Catacombs are under the church which contains about 25k bodies and usually for the richer so that they can be closer to god. Poorer people are buried under the hospital. Flowers are used to cover the smell coming from the underground. Oh, there is a painting of last supper. Plot twist, it includes the two people who commissioned the artwork and their condition is to be part of the painting at the side behind the curtains - bts.

Walked across this stone bridge that used to connect two very different communities in the past and all I can remember is how smelly it is. 😔

Visited Chinatown and it’s challenging to find good Asian food as Singapore has spoiled us. Oh my cat dress got some compliments from the locals. They love pets.

Did a quick hike to the hill in our backyard and the view is surprisingly enjoyable where we can see the horizon and I’m curious on how the houses are built and the waste system management. Shall read up a bit more.
