Holme Valley Heritage Week 2026

Walk through Oldfield’s history and discover traditional crafts in action too!

Join us for a fascinating guided walk through Oldfield, uncovering the stories hidden within its buildings, landscapes and local families as you explore this historic part of the Holme Valley.

And there’s something special waiting at the end of the walk!

The route finishes at New Hagg Barn, where you’ll be able to experience Traditional Crafts in Action and see a stonemason, blacksmith and stone-waller demonstrating the skills and techniques that helped shape the Holme Valley.

📅 Saturday 12 September

Oldfield History Walks
Walk 1 - 10.45am - 12.00 noon
Walk 2 - 12.45pm - 2.00pm

📍 Meet at Oldfield Recreation Ground, Oldfield Road, Cross Lane, Oldfield, Holmfirth HD9 6RL

Walks are free, but booking is essential.

The Traditional Crafts in Action event at New Hagg Barn is also free to attend, with three sessions available:

Time for a Florentine revival 🥳
I’d forgotten about these yummy treats until I spotted them on @heapscottage feed. I’ve been trying to increase my range of fruit, veg, nuts, herbs & spices & grains eaten over each week for a while now. It’s one of those health pushes out there that made some sense to me. So recipes like this are a great opportunity for a sweet treat that has some health benefits too.
Recipe:
100g dried fruit (I used cranberries & chopped dates but raisins, chopped apricots, figs would work well)
70g toasted almond flakes
40g coconut shavings
40g plain flour (I used Gluten free here but you could use almond or coconut flour to increase the nutritional value)
80g butter (or dairy free margarine)
50g light brown sugar
90g 85% dark chocolate (or other chocolate if preferred)

Method:
Preheat oven to 180C (160C fan)
Grease muffin or Madeleine tin
Toast nuts & coconut separately in a dry pan - continually watch & stir they burn easily.
Melt the butter in a pan
Stir in all dry ingredients
Spoon about heaped tablespoon into each mould & gently firm
Cook for 12-14 mins or until golden
Allow to cool. Loosen from tin.
Melt the chocolate & drizzle over 😋
