REPOST from @Flotation_Device_KBCS:
Flotation Device celebrates Hans Werner Henze’s 100th birthday with a mini-retrospective of his dramatic works that include multilingual cabarets, an experimental chamber opera about an escaped Cuban slave, and iconoclastic adaptation of The Bacchae, Ondine and Tristan and Isolde. Janice Giteck gets her own 80th birthday salute with a work inspired by the Coyote character in Native American literature. Dewa Alit tackles the intonational clashes between a Balinese gamelan and a Western piano, while pianist Emily Manzo plays Mary Halvorson. Halvorson in turn plays guitar with trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, and Horse Lords, Steve Layton, Denis Dufour and the Seattle-based Gefühlswallung trio join in the cavalcade with their own new releases. We close with our first look at Kaikhosru Sorabji’s 7½-hour Opus Archimagicum in its premiere recording by pianist Tellef Johnson.

Sunday, June 28, 10pm–Midnight PDT (GMT -7), on 91.3 @KBCS Bellevue/Seattle/Tacoma (streaming at KBCS.FM). Available in podcast format (with HQ audio) at Mixcloud.com. Creative and improvised music from the Northwest and around the world with host Michael Schell.
