DAY☝🏽of Oeno Camp brought energy surrounding Virginia wine to Charlottesville 💫
The @quirkhotelcva is home base and we are grateful for landing here!
Major hugs to the @cvillejeffschool x @heenneeh for laying the heavy foundation of history and knowledge going back to the 1600’s.

Winemakers from @stonetowerwinery @septenarywinery @blenheimvineyards @kingfamilyvineyards @earlymountain @commonwealthcrush showed up to talk & pour their delicious wines.

We were graced with food from @chimmtaste to soak it up, followed by an amazing dinner @oakhartsocial 🫨

Heartfelt tears were shed and our connections will only grow stronger and deeper with our amazing new family between @theveraisonproject x Oenoverse x @vawine

Keep following along ✊🏽⚡️

🦞 What does it say about me that I LOVE a lobster roll but I’ll knock a person down for a Maitake? 🍄

The soft opening of @birdiesva last night was so easygoing, y’all. Chilled plates of halibut crudo, the cleanest oysters from Virginia, Maine, Conn, and Mass., a cold fried pork chop (this is an interesting one, btw.) a lobster roll and the most outstanding Maitake mushroom.

The spot, housed at the bottom of @commonhouserva, is partially a coffeehouse and mostly a raw bar. My favorite thing is the “pop up”specials (buy them for the table on the spot @statebirdprovisions style) roaming the little place from Chef Dave — like the aforementioned pictured, seared, soy-ed and chilled Maitake and a potato mousse.

Bonuses from last evening: a CHILI conversation with @themoderngent (@villagegardenrva), a hug from @tsgrichmond and @mrchancefischer, some from afar (couple seats and/or a bar away) sightings of the lovely @heenneeh, salganz, and @eileen_mellon.

I started my wine journey in earnest 1 year ago today, and what a year it has been.

At its core, wine is about people and place; things that can embody so much beauty and complexity.

Here are a few markers of this last year’s journey:

1. 🍃Growing season in the vineyard. - Ben invited me to help work their family’s vineyard during growing season, to learn about the growing side of viticulture alongside he and his brother Tim Jordan (the most generous and patient teacher).
2. 📚Wine Unify - Shoutout to M3, Alicia, and my entire Wine Unify crew. This was the catalyst for everything. I’m forever grateful, and forever fam 🙏🏾.
3. 🍷Siân and Thadd - If you’ve heard me talk about wine, you know Market Street Wine is where the love started. When they invited me to build and host a 3-part virtual series with them last October, I jumped at the chance.
4. 👻I got to work Hellawine w/ the Lightwell Survey crew!
5. ✨Erin Scala - Erin has always made me feel welcomed in wine. She gifted me my first Zalto glass, my first taste of Donhoff (which was simultaneously my first taste of an Auslese), and introduced me to Terry Thiese, all in the same visit
6. ✍🏾Julia Coney. It started with the after-zoom (akin to an after party, on Zoom) for Wine Unify, and culminated in a Washington Post quote. Then, it kickstarted from a Google Doc and a Clubhouse chat. Her mentorship has been a gift, and sharing a 4.5 hour dinner w/ her in my city was everything I hoped it would be.
7. 🧑🏾‍🎓I got my first wine certification! I’m starting my second (WSET Level 2) soon (10/4).
8. 🍇I picked my first wine grapes and tasted my first juice (Pinot Noir) for testing sugar levels, thanks to an invite from Tracey and Kirsty at Blenheim. I still haven’t tasted/eaten a whole wine grape!
9. 👨🏾‍🌾Picking Petit Manseng before work w/ Tim and crew.

There are so many more incredible people, tastings, workshops, vineyard days, dinners, and more in between 🙏🏾. I’m looking forward to learning and exploring more.

If you’re visiting Charlottesville, you’re invited to my place for wine. Come through.
