CDC ultra was a 34 mile test run for @javelinajundred , Everything held up but fingers are still crossed. I pulled off a course PR, won my AG and was in the top 10 with the boys. Such an epic run. My favorite race in the world. I am so grateful to have cleared the waitlist and get an invitation last week. Thank you @shaun.martin31 and family, as well as all the locals involved. Everything here is top tier. The culture, the course, the spirituality and the hospitality. I’ll throw my name in the stewpot every year.

After steep rock, free climbing, and deadly sketchy sections, I reached the Saint Bernard statue near the Swiss summit. Flew the US flag, posed with the monument—monumental for me. OLTRE LA CORSA

Montagne dure, di una bellezza ancora incontaminata. Per attraversarle non basta volerlo: servono rispetto, allenamento e testa.

Sentieri di pietra, trincee della Grande Guerra, salite infinite e discese che sembrano esserlo ancora di più. L’aria è fredda, e non soltanto perché siamo a settembre: finché il sole ti raggiunge si sta bene, quando scompare la temperatura cambia in un attimo.

A riscaldare questa gara ci pensano le persone che vivono queste valli. Lo si percepisce a ogni ristoro, nella cura dei dettagli e nell’energia trasmessa agli atleti. Chi conosce davvero queste montagne sa quanta determinazione serva per attraversarle.

Adamello non è soltanto una gara e non è semplicemente correre tra le montagne. Significa attraversare un territorio, entrare nella sua storia e incontrare le persone che lo rendono vivo.

Ogni gara è diversa perché ogni luogo che ho la possibilità di attraversare correndo mi lascia qualcosa.

Da questa esperienza porto a casa qualche dolore muscolare, inevitabile. Ma soprattutto la consapevolezza di aver vissuto qualcosa che va molto oltre l’aver semplicemente corso.

I’m proud to say this: I didn’t just climb the mighty Matterhorn — I showed my fellow climbers that I care. For me, it’s never only about summiting to prove something. It’s about assisting my brothers and girlies on the mountain, alerting them during rockfalls, and guiding them along the path I was prepared for. I can’t be selfish.

I just ran the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run… Still trying to let that one sink in. It’s everything I hoped for, and some things I didn’t. It was love and pain and camaraderie and suffering and so much more. I feel I have so much to share and so many people to thank. But for now, here’s 20 pictures that just begin to tell the story…

It defies all logic.

There is no reason for me to ever want to be a part of the insane multiverse that is ultra-running. I really have no business following a runner as they race in the Western States Endurance Run. No reason.

That’s a race where people run through the woods for 100 miles. Yes, these maniacs run 100 miles in one go. Yes, even in the dark.

That is so superficial.

Here are all these people with something to prove to themselves. (That’s assuming they’re not just doing it for fun. Some do.) And that’s downright motivational, inspiring, and somehow, heartbreaking. It’s a story worth telling. And I tell stories with my camera.

Here’s to @the_road_to_ultra. Todd, Toddfather, mastermind behind the Todd Majal (iykyk), excellent, excellent story telling this weekend. Thank you for allowing me to create with you as you ran down your dream.
