The large site stretches from inland hills all the way down to the beach of the Indian Ocean near Plettenberg Bay. The gardens vary from undulating lawns and berms with wavy grasses to pristine natural eastern cape thicket bush, marrying the architecture with the natural duneland. A tennis court, a pavilion on a lake and a long sinuous boardwalk to the beach give a sense of the human touch in the wider coastal landscape. The contrast between the clipped lawn and the wild softness of the planting creates a dynamic balance — structure meets spontaneity. It’s a garden that reflects both personality and place: tailored, yet relaxed; grounded, yet playful.

This garden was featured in the Christmas issue of SA House & Garden magazine. If you‘d like to read the article, please visit our website: https://hsgardens.co.za/heimo-schulzer-garden-house-garden-december-2024/

We are honoured to see this garden featured in the December 2024 issue of House & Garden SA. Sustainability in gardens is one of the key aspects we value when designing and implementing a garden. This particular garden, nestled at the edge of the Helderberg Nature Reserve, was designed not only to be lived in, but to be alive — a place where wildlife thrives, plants breathe freely, and humans can truly unwind.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

We love this garden refurbished for its long time owners - it was featured in the Christmas issue of SA Conde Nast mag House & Garden. We feel it has a timeless quality, sitting in its framework of mature trees, brought up to date with newly created levels, cloud clipping and large circular natural pond, it ticks all the boxes of what we were aiming at….

Belmond’s Sketchbook Safari: Savute Elephant Lodge and Eagle Island Lodge in Botswana are perfect backdrops for learning to draw, paint and journal, in the bush. Under the wing of renowned artist Vicki Thomas, we learnt to look, draw, paint and soar!

Franchesca Watson was meant to design gardens. Over decades of shaping landscapes around the world, nature has been her greatest teacher—instilling humility, forgiveness, and flexibility. Her latest project at Collegio alla Querce took 10 years to perfect, balancing history and nature. The result? A breathtaking blend of elegance and wild beauty.

Head to the link in bio to read more about her.

After a year long bi-monthly ‘refresh’ the Sanctuary Garden in Lower Houghton is ready. Inspired by the concept of offering a sanctuary of well being to patients of 2 specialist doctors, with two divergent aesthetic preferences, and layers of meaning and purpose, this garden was a great joy to create. It took over a year to transform the neglected rockeries and lawns of the original garden into terraces of vibrant plantings, a Mughal inspired paradise terrace, yoga lawn and gardens of reflection, centered around Pools of water, symbolic of the source of creation, healing and life . Now 8 years later the garden is ready to share its beauty, peace and tranquility. Open this weekend 2-3 November with Gardens of the Golden City. #opengardensjhb #gardensofthegoldencity #delaharpelandscspes#thesanctuarygarden #mughalgarden #healinggardendesign

I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of my dear friend and wonderful colleague Walter Maphalala who left us yesterday while at work at the Garden of St Christopher. It was my privilege and pleasure to work alongside Walter every day for 6 years as we built this garden spade by spade, plant by plant. A passionate and loyal team player, Walter effortlessly took on the responsibilities of head gardener, setting an example to others with his knowledge, dedication, loyalty and punctuality. I will remember him fondly and carry him with me always as I build new gardens and visit those that we built together. Rest in Peace my dear friend. ✨💐🍃
