Livia is 25….! ❤️🎂 I can’t believe it’s been 25 years since our beautiful daughter came into this world. Heidi and I had a one bedroom apartment in Beverly Hills. I’m pretty sure she never slept in a crib or her own bed for the first three years. ✨

Start Trek 60 Anniversary

Although I grew up watching the original Star Trek as a kid - I got hooked on Next Generation during college. I used to tape each episode (and pause during commercials). By the end of grad school, I had almost all the episodes on VHS on my bookshelf. When Heidi and I moved to Spain together - I converted some favorite episodes to cassette tapes to listen to while I feel asleep.

There was one episode where Picard asks about Data’s brain - “..Type R?”. Heidi would sit up in bed and repeat that over and over again - to make me laugh. A couple years later a friend introduced us to Bob Picardo as he was coming to Vienna where we were then living. We ended up spending a few wonderful days with his family and having them over to our apartment for Christmas Dinner.

When we moved to LA - Bob helped us out immensely with job connections for both Heidi and I. I brought my portfolio to Paramount at his request - and he proceeded to introduce me to several Production Designers in film and television. We spent a lot of time on that lot with him - watching him film Voyager episodes.

He is one of those people who inspired us to help people out in LA – because he was just so good to us and made a lot of things possible. Thirty years later we are still great friends. I remember during Obama’s presidency – it felt like the world was getting to be bit more like Star Trek. It felt like we were part of a shared goal across the world of doing good things in the world and making it better.

Strange and very different times now of course – but happy 60Th Anniversary – the world is so much better with Start Trek in it. ❤️ @robert_picardo @heidiology_la #startrek #sttng #startrekvoyager

Last week - Heidi and I returned to the Relais Corte Guastalla just outside of Verona. We found this hotel 17 years ago and have visited so many times since then while the kids were growing up - it is like a second home to all of us. The Guastalla inspired so much of our home design ideas back is Los Angeles and in Stiappa as well. It was such a treat to see Franco and Orietta and the kids - who are all grown up now (and speak english perfectly). If you are ever near Verona and looking for a place to stay - it’s a magical oasis. They have converted many of the hotel rooms into apartments which are for sale (if you want to live in Italy but don’t want to upkeep a home there) - but you can still book a stay. ❤️✨
