Studioing: Sitting with/as Dykes
3-5:30pm, 29th October
Sadler’s Wells East

Studioing is an invitation from our Artistic Cohort to play with the choreographic through dancing, thinking, dreaming, witnessing and studying together.

This Studioing session is hosted by Heidi Rustgaard.

Sitting with/as Dykes is a poetic and embodied exploration of queerness, presence, and perception that questions queer representation, grounded in the simple act of sitting. The project opens up durational forms and listening practices, and Heidi’s One-Note framework (working with a single movement or musical note), which she developed during her time at the Rose Choreographic School. The work investigates how bodies relate to time, space, and each other through minimal yet attentive gestures and actions.
The project explores the tension between singular and plural identities, what it means to identify, look like, move and sit as a dyke. And what does it mean for an audience to sit with and alongside? The project challenges the expectation that queerness is performed in legible ways, offering a porous, shifting formation instead: a temporary collective shaped by difference and co-presence, shared scores with intersecting histories and identities. The piece asks what becomes visible when we sit, and with whom, and how.

If you would like to attend this session, please sign-up on the event page on our website via the link in our bio.

Heidi is looking for up to 20 people who identify as dykes, aged 18–80, to take part in workshops and a sharing of Sitting with/as Dykes, a choreographic durational score going into production in 2027. If you would like to perform in this session, Heidi is having an Open Call for dykes who would like to attend rehearsals in the days before this presentation. Please sign-up via the link in our bio.

OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Heidi is looking for up to 20 people who identify as dykes, aged 18–80, to take part in workshops and a sharing of Sitting with/as Dykes, a choreographic durational score going into production in 2027.

Sitting with/as Dykes is a poetic, embodied look at queerness, presence and perception, built on the simple act of sitting. Together we will try out a first draft of the score. It draws on durational forms, listening practices and Heidi's One-Note framework, which works with a single movement or musical note. We will explore how bodies relate to time, space, and each other through small, attentive gestures, and what it means to identify as, look like, move, and sit as a dyke, both alone and together.

You don't need dance or performance experience. The work is about being present, and it welcomes different bodies, histories, ages and ways of being a dyke. Trans, non-binary and gender-nonconforming dykes are warmly invited. Together we will form a temporary collective of difference and shared presence.

Rehearsals and the public sharing will be at Sadler's Wells East on the following dates (it is recommended that you attend all sessions):
- Monday 26 October, 6:30-9:30pm
- Tuesday 27 October, 6:30-9:30pm
- Thursday 29 October, 2-5pm (public sharing)

If you would like to sign up for this, please follow the link in our bio.

Parken kulturhus, Onsdag 23. september kl. 20.30
Billetter finner du via lenken i bio.

The art of knowing —-—- 12/05/2026

☆ Art work, Costume & Choreography: Reuben Sleigh - Johnson
☆ Music: New Energy, the album by @fourtetkieran
☆ With help from the @trinitylaban production team and my supervisor @heidirustgaard

🌀🌀🌀⭐️⭐️⭐️

What do we know? What do we like? What do we dislike?
The art of knowing is simply a representation of me doing something that I’ve learnt to love and like. Following something so simple as dots and lines and making it something bigger than myself. A journey of live movement and creation. Aiming to capture the peace and simplicity of doing something you enjoy and finding the ease in it.
