A PIXEL is the smallest unit of an image. On its own, it’s just a dot, but put a bunch of them together and it becomes a picture. It becomes something to observe, to consume, to understand and to appreciate. With the name of this new party series we draw a parallel with nightlife, where the final “picture” is what you see as you enter the venue. However, if you zoom in, this one night is built from dozens, even hundreds of little pixels - it starts with an idea, followed by the promoter, the venue, the Djs, the sound system, the lighting, the bartenders, door staff... and of course - YOU. Now let us paint the picture you’ll see on September 12th, by putting a few of those pixels.

I've been trying to put 2 weeks in Latvia into words, because it felt like more than a trip. It felt like remembering another way of being alive.

Sometimes life feels like I'm behind a window, watching a world where so many of us have become disconnected from the sources that once gave us power.

I've always loved the stories of my Dakota ancestors encountering windows for the first time. They didn't understand why looking through them should belong only to those inside. If a window was made for seeing through, why shouldn't you look in, too? There wasn't yet this invisible boundary between yourself and the world.

In Latvia, that window disappeared for me.

I could feel the world as I imagine my ancestors once did, and as children still do: alive, mysterious, sacred and full of limitless possibilities.

I'm sharing a different piece of my journey with each slide, so swipe through if you'd like to learn more about the people, artists, places and experiences that make #Latvia so meaningful to me. 🇱🇻✨

And first there was @dons_lv ! I first came to Latvia a couple of years ago for his first stadium concert.

Dons often sings about love, life and I also hear in his music the inspiration of the land and world around him. When I first heard his music, it felt like hearing a bird song from somewhere far away that somehow knew what I needed.

I've been asking him to play "Lights Out" for years and he made it a reality! This song especially reminds me of how I became the artist you know today.

Years ago, I told my plan to a man I cared about... that I wanted to quit my job, become an artist and make an impact with my work: I don't know how yet but it's all I can think about. His immediate response was doubt. He tried to make the dream smaller, and I knew right then that my priority had to be making that dream real, even if it meant our dream of "love" was over.

That's what I've always heard in "Lights Out": sometimes the walls have to come down. Sometimes a broken dream with someone is actually the moment you stop making yourself smaller for someone else's idea of your life.

I chose the dream/reality of being a Dakota artist.
